Hi, this type of speedometer/tachometer that is used as a replacement on Harleys appears to be available on ebay in the $70-$100 range. The speedometer is cable driven and is a 2:1 ratio. The tach is electric signal driven. Has anyone adapted one to their hot rod yet? They are considerably less expensive than the ones from the hot rod aftermarket. It would appear not too hard to fix the ratio with an adapter and breadboard a circuit board for the tach. Any opinions?

I can't answer your question but I know Auto Meter has a very simural gauge with tack in same location.

The ones I have seen from Auto Meter are in the $300 range for the speedometer/tachometer and they have a digital readout for the milage. I like the mechanical milage together with the price a whole lot better in the Harley version. Just wondering if anyone has gone through the pains (er... joys) of making it work.

Another bike combination that is interesting is from a early Honda 305 Superhawk. They can either be cheap or very high priced. Some collectors are restoring these bikes and they get a bit carried away for the perfect ones. The Honda one is mechanical on both and would require doing a new face and calibrating for a lower tach value. Could flank it with regular gauges for a different finished look. Daydreams, huh?
