i, am looking over my paint on my truck it is going to be stripped i noticed a blister, i opened it up no rust the metal is clean it looks like it was sand blasted not prepared prior to applying the primer it was done by a amature any ideas

If you are going to strip it it shouldn't be of any concern. Just be certain to prepere the bare metal before priming/painting. I usually start with metal prep and then a coat of epoxy primer. You can do body work over the epoxy and it seals off the bare metal from further rust. Take some pics..........

Todays paint system has changed alot now there is" Direct t-To Metal"sealer that some paint manf. require to be used ,i use to use SIKKENS had great results with there system some shop oweners i know say it was to expensive in the end the final cost is about the same i also like PPG ,im sure there are people who like R-M,DUPONT SHERWINN WILLIAMS to name a few

epoxy first . i use spi . sand with 80 grit, clean with wax and grease remover and shoot.

ok what is spi and then what you shoot next i? have a hard time with putting body filler over any primer after it is sanded ,of course that was the old school way, i had a company rep convince me to try shave door handles by bonding the filler panel instead of welding well it looked good ,6 months after it was painted you could see a read out and the paint blistering at the seams i still weild in my metal it is guarntee!I appreciate your input SHINE,by the way any relation to Jimmy at SOCAL Speed shop

I PERSONALLY LIKE TO USE A WIRE WHEEL FIRST,THEN A THICK COAT OF WINDEX ! SOMETIMES EVEN 2 COATS ,FOLLOWED BY PLASTICOAT ,,,,,,,, STUNNING FINISH,,,,,,,,, OL BEAR

if you go into builders corner to the 57 corvette i'm doing you can see the results. i used only spi epoxy, no 2k primer at all.

I live in the deep south doese your ppg suppleir sell it or is it mail order only?nice job on the vette i would not expect anything less seeing from your other work

i order from baker. your going to pay shipping one way or another. my nearest is about 100 miles so i just order from them. there is no down side to spi.

I have 4 PPG stores in my travels between jobs I will give them a call when they open up monday
