How many on the road to a Show or Cruise-in enhance the experience with music from the '50s, '60s, or '70s coming out of your CD player or maybe satellite radio? I'm pretty much stuck on XM Decades channels 5 and 6 as they just happen to fit the era of the car I'm driving. Nothing like a little "mood" music to get things right.

I don't have the neat XM stuff but I do have a couple of CD's I have created with my favorite car songs. I have to be careful because sometimes good music makes the pedal easier to push down.

awsum34 - Yeah, you really should get out of the closet! The music of the '80s brought such memorable hits as "Disco Duck." But rumor has it nothing worth hearing came forth afterward, I can't personally say because I was afraid of ear damage and never tried to find out.

I always loved the theme music from the tv series "Route 66." Remember Todd and Buzz in the Corvette? I always wanted to play that while driving down a nice two lane blacktop. My son recorded it for me a few years ago. He filled both sides of a cassette with the same song. He put it on in his car to surprise me. The radio kept count that it played 22 times by the time we got to where we were going. I loved it! It is so cool!. That music just makes me want to drive somewhere. That show though was always disappointing. It had a great idea, but the stories were always lousy. I kept on hoping they would have a good story but they never did.

Great song! Nelson Riddle and his Orchestra did it for the show. You are right the story lines were typically pretty Mickey Mouse, but those 'Vettes made the agony of watching the show worth it..... (grin)

Starfire, In '62 me and a buddy drove my '60 Corvette to Montana from Michigan. We wanted to be Todd and Buzz. What a mistake! My aunt and uncle had a ranch out there. I did everything in preperation for that trip. Everything went wrong! I decided to turn it into a "Press on Regardless Rally." I was curious if we could make it there and back and see what else could happen.

My buddy had never driven the car before. So he drove with the e-brake partially on. Burned up our brakes. We had to get them fixed about three times. I left with four good fenders. Three were busted by the time I got back. The injector pump broke. Had to get towed back 71 miles to a dealer. Nobody knew about fuel injection in those days. The tow truck driver jackknifed the car and broke the front fenders at the dealership. I was pounding on his window telling him to stop and he wouldn't. They were pointed straight down before they snapped. I wanted to beat that old man to death so bad! The next morning in the dealership we also had a flat, along with two cracked fenders and a busted injector pump. And we were only 90 miles from home! In Helena, Montana a guy backed into a rear fender and cracked it. That was three out of four! Busted two push rods in Iowa on the way back. Had a couple of flats with two new tires! Somebody had slashed them. When I got back home I said, "Im never leaving home again! The next year I got my draft notice. That ended that!

Got a new stereo with an input for I Pod, MP3 and a USB jack. Put all of my favorite 50's, 60's and country tunes on an 4 gb flash drive and then plug it in. Also have a 6 disc cd changer, an HD FM tuner just in case I need something different. Don't have XM or Sirius and may never. Don't want to pay for music that I may already have. Beside with the addition oa an adapter, HD radio is free.

At highway speeds there is wind/pavement noise so I don't listen to the radio. When we slow down and on local streets I usually listen to rap...at every damn stoplight.

It's more fun to pull out your M14 and put a 7.62mm round through their engine block........ Just kidding of course, but there are sure times I would find that a tremendous release and fun!

I always wanted a nice stereo so now that I have one I usually listen to classic rock but sometimes I like to listen to the new stuff too. Being from a music backround the thump can be fun but I try to not be annoying in town. Usualy it's when I am by myself on the road at 65. Wouldn't have it any other way.

I love MP3's because you can burn your own music and get about 120 songs on a CD. 5 CD's have lasted quite a while, now it is time to burn some more. I love it. Can't beat the Beach Boys and that type of music cruising down the road. Can't wait until it warms up and can get the 32 back on the road......of course I have to get it back in one piece.

Ain't got no radio in my hot rod, just exhaust tunes.

Sometimes, I sing outloud going down the road and you can follow where I have been by the dead flowers near the roadside.

Dead flowers near the roadside? Sounds like a carburetor problem. Too much unburned fuel out the exhaust........ (grin)

Try some Brian Setzer stuff. his last album has some great rock a billy sound. 'Nitro Burnin Daddy' is one of the good ones. the new car has a usb port , so i will load up a memory stick and throw away the antennae. Of course i will have to find a ten year old to teach me how to use it!

silly as it may sound, depends on where i'm headed. Last weekend, it was Step Rideau, Rosie Ledet & Kieth Frank. On the way to the roundup, it'll be Brian Setzer, Dick Dale, etc.

Guess Im getting old. I never heard of any of the music or people you guys are talking about! I never heard the names of the ones from the 50's and 60's either. When they have tv adds on tv for old rock. I had heard the songs, but had no idea who did them. I never paid much attention to any of it. Elvis is about the only one I know. I met and talked to Bobby Rydell in Vietnam though.

I see your sense of humor hasn't dried up in that hot sun yet. There ae still someplaces in this country that playing rap at stoplights brings out the pickups with Easy Rider gun racks. You be careful out there. LOL
