Can someone tell me what Chevrolets these came out in? Looking for a core and I am not sure what they were or are in.

GRAND NATIONAL BUICKS, MONTE CARLO'S, MID '80 GM CARS. IF YOU FIND A CORE HAVE IT BUILT WITH THE BEEFIER GRAND NATIONAL INTERNALS.

Try this site. Appears to have quite a bit of 200r4 info.

If these came out in Monte SS then would a person not be safe to use one out of a SS if they are not running big HP and only spin the tires every now and then? I'm putting a car together for a guy that wants to cut cost wherever he can.

not likely you will find one with the right parts. most were behind v6's. one from an ss or grand national would work but they are hard to find. if he's building a low budget car best go with a 350. a 200 is around 1300 built.

There were many installed in the full-size GM cars too (Caprice, Delta 88, etc.), even behind DIESELS so don't rule those cars out! Just make sure you update the shift body so it doesn't shift like a slug!

I been running a 200R4 behind a hopped up Olds (approx.400hp) in my rod for three years now. My core was from a 86 SS. I also added other heavy duty parts from Raptor Transmissions in LA. The most important thing when setting up a 200R4 is adjusting the TV cable. The is a lot of information on the internet. Try there also.

oilmanpat - you can bet that any "Core" tranny is not really serviceable and should be rebuilt before putting into any vehicle. No point in putting one in only to find it has problems. Rebuild kits are cheap compared to a car leaving one stranded. You need to convince your guy there is such a thing as false economy and trusting a "Core" tranny is one of those things.

My opinion is that a tranny is one of those things you cannot fix on the side of the road so why chance it. I build my own engines but always leave the tranny building to a professional. You can save a bunch doing the install yourself and just buying a nice one. I sound like a broken record but many guys on the site keep telling us that Phoenix Transmission Products can fix you up and you won't have to worry again.

Well,I have had my mind made up for me. He wants to go with a 350. i told him I thought a 22 would get better gas mileage but he says he won't be going that much so it won't matter. Thanks for all the trouble guys. Pat
