I think I'd be replacing that piston unless you want a piston with a hole burned through it at a most inconvenient time followed by a major blow out and fire in the oil pan.

Jim,...........

When we're youngsters and we go out to play, we need adult supervision. When we're old enough, we become adult supervision. Then,....when we're OLDER, we need adult supervision again.

So,.... what stage are you in right now???????????

P.S.,....If you pick the latter, playing self invented "special" games with the sitter is still not allowed.

jim i just fixed a big goof up myself . i bought a 39 ford coupe and wanted to do away with the electric fuel pump . took fuel pump block plate off and seen no pump eccentric on cam gear . took it apart to find the performance timeing set ford put on there would not eccept the pump eccentric so took apart to put new style chain and gears and eccentric on when i took the gears off the air condition hose happen to fall on top of the ford starter solonoid making eng turn over you guessed it some bent valves and push rods . it was a 440.00 dollar goof . the moral of the story is that little part in most repair manuals the one that tells you to disconnect battery you had best do it .. jim i'm 50 and still do dumb things . good luck on the install of the head bob in ny

Bob, as a general rule, in most manuals, Step#1 is remove battery ground cable. It's one of the first things I pound into my student's heads...

Dixie, you say you got a high rise intake for sale cheap??? Sorry to hear about the Chevelle. At least it was only one washer. Guess you should have towed it home instead of driving it. Hope the damage isn't too extensive. Oh well, at least the botton end did come apart on you.

Now see Jim, that's the problem with all that nice weather down there, it obviously is to to warm for you to think clearly. If you were in the frozen and snow covered north this could not have happened because IT WOULD BE TO COLD TO BE OUT IN THE GARAGE! Hope you get it fixed soon.

Don't feel too bad, many of us have done the same. Once I took the top of Holley carb off, and dropped a check ball down in the manifold (about the size of a BB). Tried to get it with a magnet with no luck... the old shop foreman told me to flip a coin as to which which way it fell. The flip went to the right side so he told me to take all the plugs out on that bank and fire up the motor....man did I get lucky!! The check ball shot out like a 22 caliber bullet, never to be found. Luckily no damage to the valves or motor and I learned a valuable lesson!

dixie i forgot to mention to the good folks here i now have one of the most expensive wind chimes in my area . i took the bent valves and all 16 pushrods and used welding wire to make a real neat wind chimes . dixie believe it or not they do sound real cool on a windy day . i have the hopes that it will remind me to cover all avenues which i'm sure it's not over. the wife asked me why i didn't put it up on the wall of shame in the garage she then walked in and looked me right in the eye and said i see why there is no more room any more . can you spell divorce . just kidding just in case she reads this . guy's use the broken parts for that red neck look in the shop or garage.well it's warm in ny bob

you'd laugh at me but a 650 would be perfect for street. 750 is the norm for big blocks but if you do the math it will surprise you. what rpm is max ?

Shine is dead on, again! Anything over 600-650 cfm even on a big block may well be too much carb resulting in just blowing unburned fuel out the tail pipe. Takes a pretty aggressive cam and a stroker crank to really need 750 cfm on anything, in spite of what the "know little" guys on the phone at Edlebrock or Holly might tell you.
