I have no idea if this is true but I was told that almost all lifts are imported from China into Texas and there get powder coated and shipped to companies that sell them.... that doesn't necessarily mean they are bad but they may not be "American Made" as advertised (probably American assembled).... so be careful... do some research...

Duecester

Could you be more specific as to which pulley failed?

A post pulley or a ramp pulley?

This is the second one of their lifts that I have heard of that experienced this type of failure. I would presume that the mode of failure is the same as the first one I heard of. On that one, the owner failed to disengage all the locks and started to lower the lift. With one lock still engaged, the lift twisted as it came down and the owner stopped the lift. At that time, he tried to run the car back up but did not realize that the cable had jumped off the pulley and was laying along side of it. When the lift took the slack out of that cable, it put an extreme ammount of pull on the pulley bolt and snapped it off, dumping the car. I personally do not like this lift since all the locks are hidden inside the columns, and I like to visually insure that all locks are in place prior to going under the lift, and it is hard to see them on this lift. I do not know of any other manufacturers that use this design. That being said, I do not necessarily think that this lift is a bad lift, it just requires more vigilance in it's operation. Even the external lock type of lifts can experience a similar failure if you do not pay attention to good maintenance and operation procedures. There are none of these lifts that are idiot proof, and you really need to pay attention to what you are doing every time you use it. This is true for every brand and design of lift on the market. All open pulleys should be guard bolted so that the cable can not come out of the groove, all lifts should be inspected and lubricated at least every month, and all locks should be syncronized and checked for proper opreration at least every month. You can not just install these lifts and expect them to perform forever without maintenance.

Any updates on the issue would be nice. I am looking at lifts so any info is valuable.
