I have a Pro Comp distributor that I have had in the car for about 1200 miles. It started making noise when started that sounds like a dry bearing until it warms up. upon removal I found neither bushing had been lubed. Easy fix. My main concern is that the chrome is coming off the lower end. IN THE MOTOR. I have Emailed the company and have yet to hear from them. I was wondering if anyone had had similar problems.

Sorry I have not heard of that one. We use Accel or MSD. I would be worried too if the chrome is on the business end and flaking off.

Pat, By the looks of the picture of the dist. It may be too late, did you drop the pan yet? I had a Pertronics Dist. bearing failure after less than a year, the centrifigal advance was stuck, took it out, cleaned it, lubed it, put it back in, no problems since. The dist. is billet. good luck Pat!

Yikes Pat, did you send a copy of this picture to them? I would e-mail them a copy of the picture and ask if this is a problem they have addressed.

I've sent them 2 Emails of which the last lncluded the picture. When I removed it there was only one small piece of chrome missing. After seeing it gon,I took an air hose and blew part of the pieces off and then picked the rest off with a sharp knife. i have not heard back from them so I wait for a few more days before calling them. I don't think it would be possible to find one piece of chrome 1/8 inch big in the motor. I'll change the oil and filter and hope.

The reason you bought that distributer was because it was cheaper than a msd etc-right? Shame-shame now its broken!

I also have a Pro Comp distributor in my 350 SBC. I bought the dist new when I put the rebuilt 350 in our '37 Chev coupe about 3 years ago. The motor I pulled out had a Pro Comp dist and the bushings were badly scored. I ordered the new HEI dist from Speedway Motors and when it came, it was the exact same one as the old one, so I disassembled it and lubed the bushings with hi-temp synthetic grease. From day one the dist is noisy when cold and quiets down when motor warms up. It sounds more like gear noise, not bushings. Maybe a slight misalignment between dist and cam gear teeth? My heads have been milled .050 to boost compression. I have had the replacement dist out and the bushings were worn/scored after only 5K miles or so. I don't have any flaking or disintegration problems like Pat.

The engine shop, which builds a lot of racing motors assured me that I would not have to shim the dist. after milling heads .050. This is the second dist with bushing wear. Don't want a third. I'll probably replace it with another brand.
