It sold Friday for $65,000 plus the bidder's fee. I was surprised that it didn't go for more. Seems like a really solid deluxe car. Are street rod prices somewhat soft there at Barrett Jackson?

rod info from the B-J website:

468cid/500+hp Chevy big block, automatic transmission, dual quads, aluminum heads, Air Ride, power trunk, removable top, billet wheels and more. Highest quality build.

This Street Rod is an absolute show-stopper. Currently owned by Arizona Diamondback star Randy Johnson. It is finished in Ferrari Fly Yellow and features hand-painted pin striping and graphics that are echoed in the engine bay and interior. Under the wild, forward hinged hood is a very loud 468cid Chevy big block V8 with aluminum heads and dual quads cranking out well over 500hp. Other features include a full Air Ride suspension, Ford 9" rear end, coilover shocks and custom finished Billet Specialties wheels with yellow trim in the centers. Inside you'll find a full custom interior with ultra suede inserts, one-off Billet and purple upholstered steering wheel, power windows, modern stereo system, power operated trunk and remote operated doors. The hardtop has a one-of-a-kind headliner with an imprinted stripe pattern and purple piping and it is removable.

Only seen one 32 ford rod old school go for 320 thou I think it went at that price. Im seeing a lot of cars go for dirt cheap except for the mustangs and camaro,s. Im also seeing if BJ dont like the car its like get it the hell out of here and stop the bidding. Even some those custom bikes didnt bring no money. And I cant beleive there letting this crap of monster garage come in. Its turning into a soap opera this auction. and yes that car should have brought more

these are collectors at this auction. a coast to coast is just not a collectors piece. they do buy cars they just want but for the most part they have already decided what cars they want before it even starts. the market for streetrods is flat unless a metal car or odd one like the 36 pontiac that went for 68k. 55 - 57 pick ups are bringing more than streetrods if done right. the all out custom from here in texas only did 55k. strange market out there as far as the stage goes.

My opinion,, About the only time the price will be up on street rods is either old hot rods with documentation or one off Foose design. (with that you are paying for the name)

With street rods that we can build off the shelf, i can't see bring in high $$$$, Unless it's different than anybody elses.

The cars that are divin will not see high $$$ (unless there is a story behind it) or a person that has put in over 200K and is willing to sell it for 80 to100K.

Just like Shine said ""collectors"" Which mean those cars will probably not be drivin.

glass cars that do not represent anything mfg by the big 3 just do not fit into the collector car scene. if one of the collectors sees one they want sure they'll bid and buy it. but not likely they'll break the bank buying it. a few deuces did ok but for the most part glass cars fell flat. the zipper 34 did poorly as did a 34 chevy. it's a different world than ours . i saw many bought for less than 50 cents on the dollar. the 56 ford big window did better than the yellow coast to coast . the throw down custom 55 chevy pu only did 55. it's a hard market to figure .

Randy Johnsons car is awesome by all means, but by no way is it a collectors car. Check out the "Concourse De Elegance" cars for some real collecting pieces, Original Superbirds, or original steel beauties that are only a few left!

These Muscle car clones that are rediculoused priced are going to fall flat eventually also- The real originals will hold a value. Just my oppinions- its all in a big cycle- remember 5-10 years ago when 41' Willys were going for crazy prices, they have already come down, like many others. A 1974 Challenger with a 426 Hemi for $75,000- thats just plain stupid- seeing that they ended that Hemi 3 years prior. Insane !

It's already been said here...C2C cars (and cars like mine) simply aren't 'collector' cars. That yellow car might have been better than most but B-J might not have been the best place to sell it. Although not as hot as they were a couple of years ago, these cars are still very popular and will still sell between 65-85k depending on the car....but maybe not at B-J.

the best place to sell a streetrod is on a website such as this one, or one that mostly those kind of cars are on. people are looking for what they are interested in,and will pay for it. in my opinion barrett-jackson only sets the market for big ego people who get off being on tv and trying to show who has the most money. i agree some glass cars have become worth less money, but they are fad cars . oze, coast to coast, speedstars still bring decent money but as shine said about 50 - 60 cents on the dollar. if street rods die then big al will have to change the name of this web-site !!

exactly carguy , even your last car ( which was bad ass ) is not a collectors piece. these auctions are not the place to sell streetrods unless it is a rare piece and 1-800 cars are not no matter who makes them. granted anything will sell high if 2 or more bidders want it. look at the pile of crap 49 ford woody that went for 25. it aint for the faint of heart. if we take the 57 vette there my banker will have to be sedated and on oxygen

Watched on Sunday as that 39 Ford Roadster went for 42k and another on right after it went for the same thing. Both were beautiful cars done right and were sold for less than half the build cost. Glass may not be steel but it won't rust either! Build 'em to enjoy 'em and drive 'em. If you want to make money do something else!
