after going thru what i've taped things dont look good for streetrods. only a couple really did much. most failed to even cover the build. 55 chevy truck and a 56 ford pu did way better. one thing for sure is the love affair for cookie cutter deuces is over. guess i called it right when i started rounding up pick'em ups. :) i have 2 now and a line on 2 more.

things dont look good for anything people dont HAVE to have in these parts. High dollar cars- boats -bikes- rvs- etc.. nothing is moving around here. Money seems to be tight for any of the fun things. BJ has never been the place to buy or sell a rod imo. Too many purists there .

if the ones they put across that stage dont bring the money then the market is flat. it is just simply a buyers market on streetrods. they are a dime a dozen as pop use to say. the market is flooded with 20 year old junk thats been dolled up . i wont put my money in another one to sell. i think streetrods will go the way of the restored model A's and the restored market in general.

Yes I also think the trucks will be more accepted and wanted. You can do a lot of neat options on a truck. I believe they will be a hot item for the next few years. To me they seem to be a little cheaper and easier to build. I am currently working on a 48 ford truck.

I've been watchin B-J as well. It's interesting to see how the focus has changed over the years. Started out years ago with restored classics, then moved to exotic european sports cars, then a few years ago it was hot rods, and now its American muscle cars. Kinda disappointed that every time it seems that a hot rod is about come on the block, they go to commercial break. Planned? And what was with all that Monster Garage crap? Still, its entertaining.

i dont know about cheaper whip. they actually cost more to do. there's way more paint and body time in them plus quite a bit more materials. interior is about the same as a coupe. everything else is the same.

This event has become a purists's Chevelle & Shelby auction. Most everything else is going dirt cheap, and if the thing is modified or customized, there's very little interest. I wish I was there because a few of the cars I love are selling well within my price range. For sure, some of those builders, who put up brand new cars, didn't even realize their parts cost - especially after you figure the auction fees!

A friend told me last night that they said on the air that the number of cars BJ is selling this year is down over 20%, and the number of viewers is way down as well. Seems that every time I switched over to BJ they were selling some "wood burner" or other piece of junk.

There are fewer cars this year, but that is because BJ put a limit on the number. They don't accept near the number of cars that apply. The way things are going this year, the ones that were rejected are probably feeling lucky.

Maybe not cheaper shine but for me in the small garage I have to work in it seems easier because I can sit the box outsid and the front clip in the shed and all I have is the cab and frame it is easier to work on. I would like to have the big garage and hoist but fortunate for what I have.

By the way - The TV coverage is "Piss Poor". Both the commentary and camera coverage are terrible.

I don't normally watch BJ found it to be interesting tv. I through the bidding was in line, most cars sold between 30 and 40,000, of course there is always the exception over the top bid. Like I said never watched or been to one of these auctions, if I were a bidder don't know if I could take the BJ crew( don't know their real title) in my face pushing me to bid higher, it's like a circus. Agree with Dixie don't care how many 32 hi boys there are , there is nothing like a roadster, except in the rain than there is nothing like a sedan.

no way to hold an auction of that size without the bidding assistants. no way could one man keep up with all of them. people who go to these auctions know what to expect. tonite and tomorrow is when the money will start to flow. these aren't hotrodders out buying a car. they're collectors . regular guys like us would get eaten alive by those shark's .

Just saw a "54 Packard Conv. sell for $154000.00; Just think I had a '54 Packard my Senior year in High School, but wasn't conv. but I rodded it! It only had 18000 miles on it, older people had it, and never drove much. My Dad found it for me, I beat that car to death. You never know, but prefer Street Rods today.

Like most tv, it is entertainment. At least it breaks up the winter. it is also nice to see that there is money out there. Although most of us will never play in that arena, when we go to a car show we are all the same.

Watched the Russo Steele auction when they ran Reggie Jackson's cars through. Thought he was gonna cry. The announcers were saying the car should go for twice as much as they went for. The LS6 Chevelle's were $150,000 cars that only went for $80,000. My heart goes out to these people!

Dixie, That was my attempt at sarcasm. I really do not feel for these people. If you get into collecting for the money end of it, that is the chance you take. When the market goes soft..............so be it. As long as everyone holds back their money, there will be some low priced deals out there. Just wish I had money to jump on some of them. My problem is I would be buying because I wanted them, not trying to turn a profit.

seems to me, most of the selling prices are down $20,000-$30,000 or more, from what they have been in the past, even some of the corvettes seem to be going a little low, and every body knows corvette folks are a little out there with there passion

i liked the commentary from the stage. One of the cars was "allright, but if it was built by a BIG NAME shop, it would have an advantage" This is the same show auction that, a couple of years ago had an absolutely gorgeous Zephyr with a v12 flatty go for big BIG dollars. The commentators were fawning all over the car, like lemmings at a goodguys show to Boyd Cotterpin. Later in the show they state that the car was built in a one man shop, somewhere in the midewst. Funny how times change. Personally, i think the stage commentator needs to be rolled in the gravel & be sentenced to drive a diesel chevette for the rest of his days. What a freakin nitwit.

god if i see one more whinny thread about how bj is ruining the hobby waaa waaa waaa i'm gonna puke. geez this is the 37 th auction for crying out loud . these are COLLECTOR CAR auctions. they are there to buy classics and collectables. not some cookie cutter streetrod that somebody thinks they're gonna knock a home run on. i bet if any one of those crying about it had a car go across at 110k they would be singing a different tune today. it aint no different than the fort worth auto auction . you go there and those pirana's will eat you alive
