I am currently building a 28 Roadster Highboy on a 32 frame it is a Brooksville body. This is my first build of this type of car . My question is on final assembly when setting body on frame is there anything that goes between the body and frame such as fenderwelting to seal the slight gap between body and the frame, only about 1/8 inch or less?

Your local street rod shop or supplier should have the olive drab webbing used to go between the body and frame. It comes in rolls, won't ooze out when you tighten bolts and is very hard to cut. As I remember the dtrip is about 2" wide.

I haven't done this so I could be wrong but I thought the "A" frame is flat (body) and the '32 frame had a curve. I thought when Rod & Custom build a highboy years ago they put a wood strip between the frame and body. It was trimed to fill in the gap.

You would still need the webbing to eliminate the squeaks.

Like Willys33 said most shops or rod supply houses have the body webbing to install between the body and frame.

hotrod37, 32 frames are available already modified to mount "A" bodies to them without modifications. Of course the you can modify the 32 frame yourself if you have the stock type frame already. A friend of mine is just about finished with a knockout looking highboy style 29 chopped Tudor mounted on a 32 frame (the frame was purchased ready to mount the 29 body). The "highboy" just means that the body is mounted on top of the frame because this car is no way very high off the ground.

Be careful about using plain rubber or something of that sort because as you tighten the bolts the rubber will ooze out or over a period of time will tend to flatten and "fall" out. If you have a rubber supply outlet in your area you can use conveyer belt material because it has a cloth weave inside of it which holds it together.

This is the last 29 on deuce rails that I did. I used the wood blocks where the body mounts like they did origionally. The body doesn't have subrails like the deuce does that lay flat along the frame. You can build blocks to sit up in the crossmember of the body so when you tighten the body bolts it doesn't collapse the cross brace. Here are some pics hard to see the blocks. Hope this helps, if you have any questions feel free to call 402-463-1940

Roadsterboy is right about the wood blocks. The underside of a Model A body doesn't have any flat spots at the mounting holes so hard wood blocks (or something like wood) need to be cut to fit into the crossmembers and under each of the mounting points to set on the frame rails. Of course, for a high-boy you'd want the blocks to be as low profile as possible. I got the body/frame welting and the wood mounting blocks from C.W.Moss (check their web site) that are made to put under each of the mounting points. The welting doesn't want to run the entire length of the body, just under each of the mounting blocks. Let us know how you made out.
