folks i need your help again i most recently bought a 39 ford 5 window and guess what ford small block in it go figure . the trouble is i took the msd dist and coil and msd 6al box out and bought a 1 wire hei dist .just trying to clean it up a bit under hood. does it go in the same way chevy dist does up on compression stroke tdc and do i have to use the traditional #1 location or can i aim it anywhere with less crossing in the cap wires . this is a h/o 302 with counter clock fire order 13726548 and i guess the cylinders are different . 1234 onpassengers side and 5678 on drivers side is this correct . iv'e been a chevy guy most of my life and i can do dist in my sleep when it comes to chevy any info would help thanks bob in ny

Use the Ford firing order and set number one where you want it. ( as far as the cap is concerned, number one cylinder must match of course) Doesn't matter. Just important that the firing order AND vacuum advance remains so that the unit can be turned to set the timing. Once #1 is up, decide where you want #1 on the cap and set the rotor to match that location. Then follow the Ford firing order and go for it
