It's with a sad heart that we're announcing we've cancelled the Hot Time in the Heartland show in July. There are many reasons we're having to do this, some of them personal, some financial and some of them logistical. No one reason was enough to do it and each individually could be overcome but when you added them all up it just wasn't worth the effort to pull it off.

The biggest reason is that the Good Guys show was announced for that same weekend one state over which would have made it significantly more difficult to compete for rodders attention. When we found this out we added up all the other issues we were dealing with at the time and decided this just wasn't worth overcoming.

ALL Registration monies will be returned to you, we'll be sending out checks this week to all of you who have registered already and we are very sorry to those of you we've inconvenienced. We haven't come to this decision lightly and we hope you all understand

I forgot to mention how we were all looking forward to this show, I'd signed up for my whole crew (5) cars and it was to be a nice weekend getaway. Maybe you could try again at a later time. God luck.

Sorry to hear this. I know a little of what Tammy has been going through to make this happen. My hat is off to you guys for even trying. Maybe we can try this again sometime on a slightly smaller scale.

Al, think about maybe doing something along side a Goodguy or NSRA Show. Maybe a Friday or Saturday Evening get together. A meet and greet kind of thing. Years ago the Sedan Delivery Limited had a get together at Saint Paul on Thursday before the Nationals and it seemed to always get a good turnout. It was held at a city park....

I think all of us just want to thank all of you for trying. That is the main thing. At least the effort was out there. Hopefully we will be able to have one somewhere down the road. I think a lot of us were looking forward to meeting the people we deal with on an almost daily basis. Thanks for trying to make the best rodding site on the web even better. I know that somehow, somewhere, someday, it will all come together. Even if it happens in sections, like the Western area has a get together, and the other regions do the same, it will be a start. Just gotta keep the faith. Thanks again for all you do.

glrchotrods, I think piggy backing onto a larger event might just work...we'll give that some thought... maybe have an event within an event...would be kool if we could take over a hotel at one of the national events....or just get together somewhere...Lokar does an open house on thursday before the Nat's in Knoxville and they get close to a 1,000 folks...

I am open to suggestions about the Des Moines show, or any of the upcoming events. Send your suggestions to us and we will try to re-direct our efforts to something like that.

your going to have to compete no matter when it is. every car club wants their own show. down here they are everywhere and every weekend. most do good to get 30 cars and half of them are members. just pic your date and make your show. but forget about all the hype. you were making it too hard on yourself. just supply the show. let folks find their own rooms and such. dont go nuts on trophies , they cost money and are useless for the most part. get car clubs to help and maybe give out their club pick. imho if you have to give out a bunch of them to get those people to come your better off without the trophy hounds.

Piggybacking an event could work. One of the host clubs for the NSRA York event alsways does an event two days before York East and always with a substantial turnout. They don't charge for registration, but depending on the magnitude of the event, a registration fee could be a good option. Streetrodders don't mine paying fee if they are going to get something in return.....like a really good time.

Shine.... Bluff Dale sounds good to me! Like your temps better than PA this time of the year. Just don't schedule it for August.

When this show was originally discussed it was a small get together with the people from the site. You would park your car and carry your lawn chair with you. It was a spoof on power parkers. The scope of it kinda got away from us. It can still be done that way. We don't need trophys or their chasers. Springfield is a big city with a lot of things to do in and around it.

I think some of the size of the event came from wanting to have a place for all to park, and cheap rates for hotels, then we talked about a party (dinner etc.) If you all want to just meet in Springfield-ANYTIME we can take over the town ala carte!

Thanks for all the work that went into this. I am sure it was a tough decision to cancel. How about we all just show up anyway?I am of the belief that this group doesn't need any planned amusement, we can all make our own. Other than that the idea to host a special area at a nationals may be a good one. We certainly were looking forward to a trip to the midwest.

Am I the only one mad about this????

Just kidding, I would have had to come up with a thousand excuses why I didn't get my A bone done in time for the show anyway! Us west coasters have been having our own SR.com get-togethers for a few years now and they're always a lot of fun.

I'm supposed to be in Springfield about two weeks before the event for a niece's graduation so I was trying to figure out how to get either you guys to move the show up, or the kids to move graduation back. Now I don't have to worry about it, but know we'll all get together soon anyway.

Can we plan for something like Americruise 2009 in Lincoln, NE? The event is already planned but maybe we could all get reservations at the same hotel, reserve a buffet in town, take over the ball room of the hotel, etc. Minimal effort in the get-together, and let the Americruise people handle the car show part! If we want to park together we just leave the hotel together!

Whatta y'all think???

I like everyone else is disappointed about the cancellation. Just a word to everyone, you may want to check with the hotel. I called tonight and they still had my reservation under my last name. It might be a good idea to call and make sure your reservation isn't just listed under your last name. I had to make sure that I wasn't going to get charged for rooms that I wouldn't be using since they are guaranteed on the credit card.

I also can't see why it can't go on! Unless the hotel wants a full buy out so they can be booked, why not plan on meeting that weekend anyway? We don't need no stinkin sturctured event! Why not plan on meeting in the hotel meeting room on Friday and Saturday and go from there? I am sure Tammy could give us a list of things and places to go to. Like Brian said, this started out as a get together, not a hi falutin, big money car show. I don't know if the hotel would let us take over the parking lot to sit around and shoot the breeze, or if the local constibles would have a problem. To me it was just a way to get the website members together. Tammy/Al/ Eriq, if something else, like not enough people signed up or something is the problem, let us know. Maybe we can remedy the problem.

Dixie, don't tell me you never saw Animal House. Nothing says we still can't get together on the dates we have already set aside. Even if we didn't get the whole hotel we might have enough for our own corner of the lot.

Sure was looking forward to the show, since it is only 100 miles from home. As you know, GoodGuys will only draw between 2000 and 3000 entries, and there are many rodders, that don't attend their events, that live in a few hundred mile radius of Springfield and will be glad to attend a nice new event. Thanks for all your efforts and look forward to a later date.

Car festival mob prompts security revamp By Rob Taylor

Mon Jan 7, 9:24 AM ET

Could have had it and had it turn out like this mess. Guess it's from hanging upside down for all those years. What do you guys down there drink? LOL Just thought it was an interesting article about how things can get out of hand sometimes.

Organizers of Australia's biggest hot-rod car festival on Monday pledged to review security after a drunken mob of hundreds of men surrounded women and demanded they flash their breasts during an angry rampage.

The mob, estimated at up to 400 strong, marched through streets at the Summernats street car festival on Saturday in the capital Canberra after authorities attempted to crack down on unruly behavior at what had been billed as a "family event."

"Anybody that brought their family in here would have to be dysfunctional," one security guard told local papers after the mob circled any women it passed, as outnumbered authorities watched, powerless to intervene.

Summernats is Australia's biggest and best-known car festival and draws more than 110,000 fans who each January queue to see the latest chromed and airbrushed street machines. The military also attend in a bid to boost recruiting among the youth turning up at the festival.

But the event, celebrating its 21st year, is controversial and has been marred in the past by fans clashing with police, car accidents and strong opposition from local Canberra residents angered by illegal drag racing and raucous behavior.

Summernats organizer Chic Henry on Monday said the protest mob was the first ever seen at the three-day festival, describing the mob pictured in newspaper front pages as a "big group of happy people marching around."

But witnesses crossing paths with the mob said they had been terrified and described young girls as being in tears as jeering youths demanded they flash their breasts in a repeat of the event's raunchy origins when stripping competitions were featured.

Canberra Tourism Minister Andrew Barr said the disruption had been minimal when compared to the tourist revenues drawn in by the large crowd of interstate visitors.

Henry said a call to restrict alcohol at next year's event to avoid another mob confrontation would be counter-productive, although security would be reviewed.

We'll see how funny it is when the people and cars they were plannin' on capitilizing on don't show up...

Do you reallly want to get into that game? I know it would be publicity for the site and let people know you are out there but,.....................I don't know. What are the odds of getting a hotel all together, etc. I would rather just have us all together somewhere. If you can make it happen somewhere close, I would probably come to it but not my first choice.

PS. If you were planning to that, you might as well call Goodguys and see about sponsoring one of those Pre-show party's.

Sorry to hear the news-I was going to forget Goodguys here in Des Moines and come to your show. Goodguys is getting to be about the money and not true streetrodding. While I am complaining, I might add that I feel they could spread some of that money around instead of giving you a chance at a second drawing. NSRA does it right !

It doesn't take much to get a bunch of rodders together. Doesn't have to be an all day organized event, just a get together for a few hours to meet folks. People will be greatful for a place to sit down after walkin their feet off all day. Just set a time and place to meet Saturday evening of the Goodguys show (maybe a burger joint parking lot somewhere near the show). I just mentioned it once on this site and look what happened at my house the Saturday evening of the L.A. Roadster show. Food always draws a crowd.

I am with GMAN, organize some kind of get together at the nats in louisville,,. Nothing fancy just a meet at a designated spot on the grounds. My thought is that you would have a better turnout that way. I dunno. Just my 2 cents. and by the way little ace I agree greedguys could learn alot from nsra as to how they treat there participants. I was thumbing through an old ( 1981) streetscene magazine and the 1981 street rod nats reg fee was the same as it is now. How many other things have stayed the same price for 27 years??
