Hey, Happy New Year to you all............ I recently bought a nice low milage orignal family owned El Camino and want to jazz it up a little and of course as you know the wheels and tires are the first to cross your mind and I want to put like 16" wheels on it and don't know what size tires I can put on it without changing the gear ratio too much, do any of you have an idea ?

I think maybe 225x60-16 what do you think as it now has 205 75 R14's Thanks in advance for any ideas you might have......what do you think about GM rallys and the little flat police caps ?

Use this site, put in the stock tire size and 4 optional tires you are looking at and it will give the percentage you will be off on the speedometer, also mph off at 60. It will also give you the diameter/section width so you can see if the options will fit.

Then, put 18's on it. They fit the opening better in my opinion.

Aw, never take anyones likes/dislikes but your own.

Thanks to all who have responded, I too think that a wheel tire rake would look good. Dennis that is one fine looking Elky. I used to only like the 67's but i'm kinda liking ther looks of the later ones.........Thanks agian and if anyone has any other ideas I would like to hear from you.

We had a great 1968 SS El Camino. My husband loved that car. Wish we would have kept her. Didn't hook up too well without any weight in the back but it was a lot of fun on the highway! I agree with scooting- decide what you like and do it your way. We had big corvette rally wheels and she looked sweet. I will try to find a picture or two.

yo bill,----i typed another message in here, pressed the add comment tab and it never appeared. if it shows up later you`ll know that i`m not losing my mind. in it i said that i was told when i bought my tire/wheel set-up that manufacturers were cutting back on the production of tires for 16" wheels. could be B.S., but worth looking into. also said that the 18" rear wheel looked significantly larger than the 17" frontwheel. in my opinion the17"/20" and 18"/20' combos would look too large. good luck, i`m sure whatever you choose will look fine!!!

Thanks Dennis, I think yours looks just super the way it is.. I ordered two 16x8's for the rear and two 16x7's for the front and Tirerack has the tires I want. I will post a pic after I get all of it and paint the wheels to see what you think. Thanks again for your help......
