I want to narrow a 57 Chevy rear end 3 1/2 inches. On a Ford I have cut one side and centered the pig. Can I do the same on a Chevrolet? Just cut one axle...

I have found from experience that you can narrow a rear end any way you want it. I have done a few with centering the pig, and some with keeping a standard offset. I usually pay $60 - $100 to have a housing cutdown and the ends rewelded on in jig. Then i always have used MOSER ENGINEERING to cut my axles and repline them. I also always have new bearings replaced and pressed at the same time just for insurance. the reworked axles and bearings and any seals, together roughly cost about $175-$200, it does not matter how much they cut. Just make sure you have real good measurements, and mark the axles each, the same way they came out. They have a real fast turn around , 2-3 days.
