Guys, I'm looking at putting a battery for my 46 chevy truck under the bench seat as I understand that there are batteries out there that now do not have any acid in them. Not sure if this is a good idea or not, as I have not seen any information on these types of batteries. Any ideas or options would be greatly appreciated.

Are you referring to the Optima battery? You can lay it on it's side. I am running one in my '46 Ford sedan in the trunk. Doesn't have to be vented.

I had a'41 Chevy pick-up, it's now running around Louisville,KY. I but the battery under the bed ,right behind the cab. I made a battery box that allowed the battery to be slid into the box and bolted it to the inside of the right frame rail. The muffler was behind the battery, just ahead of the rear axle. You gain a little clearence if you

My computer didn't finish what I tried to say Andy. You can gain a little more clearance by using a battery with side posts.

Take some measurements Andy, it should fit right beside the starter. Build a box to protect it from wheel spray. Our 38 has it beside the frame rail in the rear of the passenger side fender. To service it I can see it from under the hood, but to change it you just turn the wheel full to one side, reach in and undo the metal cover and out it comes. I made a tray out of 1" angle and attached it to the side of the frame. If i can dig my way into the garage i will pull the cover and shoot some pics later.

Dave, Thanks for the idea, a picture would help when you have the opportunity. I have been working on the truck at a friends shop, we are putting in the wipers, seat belts, heater & A/C and doing some of the wiring. I know it's - 20 to 25 below C outside and I'm installing A/C. It all that cold weather and snow shoveling, it has an effect on you after a while.

Guys, Thanks for your suggestions as well. I greatly appreciate all the Help that is offered from the people on this site.

I am building a 46 Chevy also. With the V engine and auto trans there is very little room under the cab where the origonal battery went. I made up a metal box and installed it under the pick up box just behind the cab on the right side. All you need is longer cables to go to the new location.

Thanks Dave, Sorry to hear that you got more snow. I can send you a copy of the snowman kit when I'm finished with it.

Also Thanks Mike338,

too cold to make snowmen, it won't stick. it is 16F or -10C depending on how you look at it. But they are still predicting a green Xmas?

Andy.......Rock Valley makes a stainless box with top that recesses into the bed wood. Pretty neat. Check with Yogi's on this site. DO NO used the frame for the primary ground cable. Run a #1 from negative post to 3/8" bolt closest to the starter. Then a #10 to frame and grounding block under dash.

No problems, no fun with rods.
