What would you do or say if this happened to you? Back in October when I bought the 34 Ford Coupe I was having some trouble with my back for a couple of weeks. I had had two operations a couple of years ago and one on my neck last year. I wasn't feeling to well at the time and couldn't do the work under the car. Well rather than just drive the car I brought it to a so called street rod shop to have it checked out. I left the car there for 2 days on his lift. After the 2 days I returned to pick up the car and ordered from him a conversion kit for the rear brakes. I waited for 3 weeks for him to receive the parts which he did and I paid for. It was always "I can do it next week" this went on for 5 weeks. A friend of mine was in his shop last week but never let on he knew me. On one wall of his shop he has pictures of cars he said he built. To my friends surprise he saw pictures of my car on the wall, interior, front end and engine. He mentioned to the owner of the shop that he would like to build a car like mine without letting on he knew me. The owner sat him down and explained to my friend how he built my car and about what it would cost my friend to do it the same way. He told my friend it took 8 months to build because his customer was a real pain in the ass. I was really taken back considering I bought the car out of state. I decided to go to the shop and collect my money for the brakes he never did. Yes sir there they were on the wall like my friend said. The owner just said he takes pictures of cars he likes and puts them there to fill in the wall. Do ya think he was bullsh__in me or what?

Dont let it bother you that much-I myself have laid claim to assisting a build on a car and have quoted a price on cars that I havent built even though I could. Maybe the guy did the same- and with all the s@#T that we have been through lately-dont post his name.

I don't know what the holdup was, i don't know if it needed any painting or fabricating but in general a brake conversion should be able to be done in less than a few hours.....more like 1 hour max, but to give him the benifit of the doubt, say a full day.

As for the parts taking weeks to get, Most brake kits are pre packaged and ready to ship, unless there was something on backorder, which in that case they ship the parts they have with a notice of backorder on the invoice for the parts they don't have.

But to lie about building your car to a potential customer thats just stupid. even here on SR.com we've seen builders who claim to build cars they didn't. I don't know if these guys are just new in the biz or are they just blind to how small the street rodding industry really is. My family has been in Street Rodding biz scence I was a child and I've seen this play out many times. Most of the time its owners who claim to have built the car, But that, Im fine with, If thier funding the project they deserve as much credit as the builder. But for a builder to claim he built a car that he didn't, what else will he lie to you about.

One thing I've learned in life and in buisness, Honesty will always prevail, even if your in the wrong, as long as you have the truth on your side you can still be corrected. But a lier will always be nothing more than just a F***ing lier.

What would I do...Get my car, my money or parts and pictures of your car then let him know about your buddy he lied to and you would prefer not to do buisness with a bold face Lier......You don't need to do anything else, He will end up doing it to himself.

If he lied about that, what else will he lie about? I'd do as Leon stated, get your car , money, parts and pictures. I wouldn't want anyone to think I'm associated with him and I wouldn't trust him.

Tommy,........You need to set the record straight.

When it's parked, how bout a small sign that says "FYI....SO AND SO DID NOT BUILD THIS CAR"!

This will invite questions and present an opportunity for you to share your experience with this shop. (OUCH)

This guy sounds like a dirt bag. He's a proven liar and won't hesitate to compromise a customer if the situation benefits himself in some way. On your way out the door, tell him about your sting and watch him squirm.
