What is the best dash you ever saw in a 40? I am open to all ideas. The interior of my car is in need of a refreshing change. I would like to do more than just new gauges or even stock gauges, so dream big for me. I have a stock appearing fiberglass dash that can be modified or could weld changes onto a Ford or Mercury dash. I don't want a new high tech billet look (no digital) but prefer to stay with a chrome adorned "could have been made back then" look. Give me a hand and paste in a photo of what you think might look good.

1956 oldsmobile dash insert has a little art deco look to it. mount into a flat dash like the ones made i think by bitchin or a stock 39 dash

bmaio54, I have seen the Old's dash shortened and put into a 32, looked very strong 50's chrome jukebox which is nice.

Leon, wow, that is a major amount of work in that car and very high quality. The interesting note is the instrument cluster being a play on the old nash steering mounted pod. The addition of two smaller gauges on the side make it even better. (those are some instruments in that car too, aren't they). I also like the concept of using expanded metal as a trim. The repeat of it in the pedals is nice too. Overall, like you say, a stretch for me but there are some good ideas there.

Dixie, the 59 chev dash has been a long time favorite of mine. What you are likely remembering is Shine's new buy of his dash and him chomping at the bit to get into it. In Street Rod Builder, there is a 38 Chevrolet (owned by J. Boyce, interior by the Recovery Room) where the 59 was mounted in the middle, floated and painted a contrasting color and it was about the best I have seen. http://www.recoveryroomrodinteriors.com/boyce.html# (I can't get the image to print here, but take a look) Most people like to use the 59 with the stock recesses on passenger and driver side and put them in, another great way to go.

Keep the ideas coming, where are the 40 owner's opinions?

That car was buildt by Troy Trepaniar From Rad Rides by Troy, I know I misspelled the last name but you guys know who he is.

As I've said before he is probably my favorite builder and its cars like this is the reason why

The only thing I didn't like was how the car was presented & displayed, It deserved a lot better.

dash changes.... thats my thing! i like retrofitting different dashes into other cars. put a 40 car dash in pop's 38 truck, bought a 57 belair dash for his new project, a 54 chev p/u & am curently setting the guages up for a 50 ford car dash in my 36 p/u project. that one took some modification, had to shorten it almost 15" & reshape the edges all around. (there are some pics on the site under my 36 pickup thread) a 57 belair dash would look pretty cool fitted into the 40 & wrapping around into the doors. anything goes, some just might take some more work than others.

I agree with all the guy's on the 50's dashes..... check out my "Extreme Makeover" 56 Plymouth dash.... everytime I get in my car I feel good about that dash.... the Art Deco look is beautiful but I'm not sure it would look right in your car... oldsmobile, pontiac and caddy had some great chrome covered dashes.. I used my 36 dash as the attachment point and adapted the 56 Plymouth to that.....

i'm 1 car away from starting on inderweed again. i scored on my dash, it has fac air vents on it my plan is to bring a console down from it and between the seats. 40's are tuff. the stock dash has been done to death . i did see a 39 once with a 54 ford dash pod on it. looked pretty cool. it'll come to you when your not thinking about it
