Have any of you guys in the northern states noticed over the last several years that anytime there is mention of snow it turns into the greatest snow storm ever? You know " You might want to stay home" " Only go out if you have to" That kinda crap. I live in the Chicagoland area and guess what? In the winter here it SNOWS. I love how when it does snow they put some moron on tv at the airport or on the expressway to show us that it's snowing or cold. DUH get over it. It's NORTHERN ILLINOIS!!! Snow happens. Sorry for the rant, I have to go out and shovel some snow now. Sure is pretty right now but, I'll get over it by tomorrow.:)

Brian- I used to love the snow. We would snowmobile all over Wisconsin. I still like it, when I don't have to shovel it. This past Sunday was something else. A nice snow turned to sleet. Net result, one big ice cube. no Fun. yes, nothing more beautiful than snow at night. Maybe the Northern lights. Merry Christmas.

It seems the weather men are in the business of creating panic. They are always over reacting just in case they may someday get it right. Those are the dream jobs, political analysts, weathermen, sportscasters, All jobs where you get paid for being wrong more than you are right.

I don't mind the snow....hate the ice. I hope we have snow for Christmas but that is all. After Christmas I will take the cool weather and dry roads.

Woke up this morning to 5 inches of the white stuff. I live about 40 miles from work, and don't mind drivingin the stuff at all. Took about 15 minutes longer this morning and most of that was when I got into the city. Those people just don't have a clue on how to drive! I'm with Brian we live in the North it snows so just get over it and drive on!

That's the point Jeff. Drive on, just a new challenge for some folks. Anyone can drive when it's sunny. Bring it on!

Just got a call from my bother who lives in Geneva Il--got 5 inches of snow-- his wife hit a patch of ice and wrecked car on the way to work. She is OK and no one else is hurt. Hit one car-did a 180 and hit another car. Just got it paid off.

Don't get me wrong Northern Illinis is a great place--I just opted for the Southern part of the state to go to college and never left. At least most of the people up there have an idea of how to drive in the snow, down here everything comes to a stop if you mention snow. Enjoy it.

I live 160 miles from chicago and used to the snow. I used to enjoy it more then I do now but you can't stop it and I don't want to move so I put up with it. The front wheel drive cars make it better for the wife to get to work. Hope she don't read this as I retired. We haven't had that 10 below 0 for two or three weeks at a time which is fine with me. A drive out in the country with the open fields and the timbers is very pretty after a few inches of snow. Just my thoughts.

I agree with Reborn, it seems like southern Illinois folks need a few days to remember their driving skills. I try to stay off the roads the first couple of snows. Today, just cold and very light flurrys. I doubt we will see much this time. I kind of miss the big snows that used to get you a day off of work but now days work comes home with you if you have a computer and the Internet...ahhhh technology.

Most Marylanders lack skills to drive in even wet weather let alone snow. Today it is snowing, supposed to get 1 to 3 inches by tonight. But it might as well be ice. Just got a call from my wife who has to attend a meeting in southern Maryland. Traffic on Interstate 95 from Baltimore to Washington is moving at a rapid 11 mph. Most people can nearly jog that fast. Drivers have all gone berserk. There are accidents on nearly every major roadway in the state. Those who lack the skills, patience or desire to drive in inclement weather need to stay the hell off of the roads, so fearless idiots like myself can get out and go. ;-)

I'm with Jim636, When I lived in Central Ohio, I had a standing rule with my employers... If getting to work required a 4WD truck, they could either come and get me or wait til tomorrow... In almost 20 years of wrenchin and having to drive 50 mi one way to one job, I only missed one day because of weather... I called and the boss started whinin about he had work scheduled for me. I asked him if he would pay the ticket. He asked "what ticket?" I told him what the fine was for driving during a level 3 snow emergency. He said "stay home" Columbus got no snow the previous night, we got dumped on and the county closed the roads..

Having been raised in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., I know snow. As it turns out, snow is one of the five happenings that I am terribly allergic to and threatens my well being whenever contact is made.

The other four are bombs, bullets, fire and husbands.

Oh no- what do we do now. It's seven below today- how will we survive! It also snowed yesterday. Everyone - run out and get bread and milk!!!As for me I just take what we get- as long as there is some whiskey in the house we can make it!!I just keep on keeping on - 100 miles a day to work - regardless of the weather- and I am not even a post office worker!!Life goes on!

I moved from a one traffic light town in the snow belt area of NY, along Lake Ontario, called Marion, to a no traffic light town called Cana, Viginia several years back. I went from a 168 inch snow fall average a year, to a 12 inch a year average. The only draw back is the ice storms we have here frequently each winter. So far this season, no snow, no ice and the weather man is calling for 70 degress on Monday and mid 50's untill then. If and when it does snow here, this whole area shuts right down, no school, no shopping, no work. However, the mail always gets through.

Buickboy did you say 100 miles a day to work????? You need to change jobs or move! I cannot imagine your fuel bill. Well the snow is now headed our way, or so they say. Snow tonight (only about 3-4 inches) so I will put up with the bad drivers this weekend and see the joy on my daughters face when it comes. She loves snow!! It means forts, and sledding, and snowball fights. Remember when snow was something you wished for?

Man, This is great. I agree with Robert (ORPHANS2). There are too many people on the roads who don't have a clue how to drive in the snow. And the weather people live for this to get everyone in a frenzy. But it doesn't faze me. I can use the 32 Gal. of milk and the 26 loves of bread. Why the heck do people always buy milk and bread when it snows? Man. I want to make sure I have enough fuel oil and beer. Lets get our winter priorties straight. As long as I can get to the garage to be with my hot rod, I am all set. Have heat, refrigerator, and cable. But after living in Eastern Pa all of my life I must admit, I am ready to move and be DA34 GUY's Neighbor. I HATE SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't drive the roadster in the snow, It kicks up too much inside the car!!!!!!!!

Yeah, Purple Flame Guy, I hate the snow as well, that's one reason I left NY. I never go back to visit friends and relative during the Holidays unless I check with the weather report. If there is any indicatiion of flurries being forcasted for that time period, we make our best wishes over the phone from Virginia.

Sitting watching the evening news, as they once again warn of heavy snow and problems South of Buffalo. Yes it is darn cold, +8 F or -12 C depending on which thermometer you use. my biggest issue is our Department of Highways new policy............They run a tanker truck spraying Brine (salt water) up and down the highway.........they claim that the salt sinks into the road and stops the black ice from forming. Man everything here is now white, like driving through a car wash with salt instead of soap. At least my wife went out and turned on the heat in the garage so I can play after supper............so life isn't so bad......

Thanks, everyone........the kiss of death! I was skirting the nasty weather till this morning! Woke up to a good 1/2 inch of ice all around. Lost power at 8am, just flickered on now at 10pm! Ran a generator from noon until now. Lost a lot of branches and trees. Looks like a couple on my tram going down to the dock. They are talking about another wave in an hour or so so I thought I would drop a line while I could. Give me the snow anytime. I can drive thru that but this ice crap is just murder on everything! I will try to add a couple pics from this morning. Stay safe and stay warm.

If you can assure me of 75 degrees and sunny year round, I am on my way! Lost power again about 2:30 this morning. Running the generator to keep some heat in the house. Another wave coming tonight all the way thru Wednesday. Power comany said can't say when power will be back. Could be anywhere from hours to days. Oh well, I got my love to keep me warm. Hey, they should make a song like that. Updates later.
