my running boards need new covers. I was planning on getting & installing new covers but have been told the adhesive does not hold up and I would be better off buying new boards. yes,no, maybe ? thanks for your input

Try Sacramento Vintage. When I bought my running board material they included the adhesive, specifically for mating the two surfaces. I'd imagine that properly preparing the steel is going to be the key to adhesion, along with the temperature when you apply it, etcetera.

The boards on my 40 were shot with pickup bed liner years ago when it was a just becoming the fad to do pickups and they still look like new. I don't baby the car - it has been on both coasts, Canada, and Mexico. I recommend the liner material highly.

the trick on running boards is to lay down a thin coat of glue and let set for a day or so. fresh glue will not stick to either surface until cured. but a thin layer will stick like concrete to a coat of dry glue.
