I have a 77 Vette that I am working on. I have replaced the P/S pump, control valve and all hoses. All items are new not rebuilt. The only item not replaced is the cylinder. I have adjusted the control valve per procedure and it works as it should. Also, all lines are hooked up correctly.

My problem/question is, the system seems to be hot to me. REAL hot. After running the motor for just a few minutes (car is on stands with wheels off), the lines at the control valve and cylinder are so hot that you cannot touch them. My laser thermometer showed temps in the 150 to 170 range and at oneime or another I had a 200 reading. Pump is i the 150 range. What the heck is up with this??? Is this normal? If it is running that hot, it'll be scorching under driving load.

I used to repair hydraulic systems years ago and realize that the lines can run hot, but usually this is after they have been loaded. Any suggestions???? ps...the system seems to function fine as well....

I'm still trying to work through this issue. Any ideas or are these temperatures normal?

Try taking the laser to the family car and compare.Or see if any other vette owners will let you test theirs.200 doesn't sound that hot when it is bolted to a 185 degree motor.

I'm hoping that this is the case. I started looking into this because it puked all the fluid out through the pump about 10 minutes into breakingthe engine in. Have never had that happen before. I thought that I had the cylinder lines crossed but I didn't. It will build this heat up in about2-3 mins at the contol valve mounted to the cross link. Making me nervous for I want to be able to deliver this car next week.

leave the cap off and make sure the fluid is circulating . heat does not seem to be a problem but puking the fluid out is bad.
