I am restoring a 1950's childs 78 inch boat. It has a Clinton 3-1/2 h.p. engine inside the hull with a small outboard lower drive monted under the boat. It is wood with fiber glass top layer.

I have primered heavy and blocked, but have a few spots where there are pin holes showing. Should I primer again, or should I use a fine putty or cream to fill?

The paint I am using is DuPont, the primer is Fill'n sand 131S. The top coats recommended are either ChromaBase or ChromaOne. The other question is, Can I clear on top of one of these with a TWO-PART clear. I want the protection of a TWO-PART, even though the boat will probably never be in the water for than an hour or so.

Thanks for any and all info.

dale, when i run into these i just rub primer into them with my finger when i reprime . sometime putty will swell up. i would use spi clear. chromabase is base clear, chromaone is single stage.

Try evercoats glazing puddy, I don't remember the part #, as for paint, Chromabase with a urathane clear is perfect. I use Dupont on all of my builds

Thanks to BOTH of you. When you RUB primer into the spots have you MIXED the primer with the thinner, or do you use it straight out of the can?

Silly question...... Do paint suppliers have MISS-MATCHED or paints mixed in ERROR laying around that one can buy at a reduced price? I know owning a hardware store we often had for home projects, but just wondered about suppliers of automotive paints.

Fill n sand is mixed 1 part primer to 1 part thinner, is there any advantage to a bit more thinner in an effort to fill some pin holes.

Just learning. Too will I need to use a SEALER before top coat?
