I NEED A REAR END HOUSING FOR MY COUPE. IT NEEDS TO BE FROM 50-1/2" TO POSSIBLY 53" FROM WHEEL MOUNTING FACE OF DRUM TO WHEEL MOUNTING FACE OF DRUM. I AM TRYING TO COME UP WITH SOMETHING TO AVOID HAVING TO NARROW A UNIT. I WILL BE RUNNING A SMALL BLOCK CHEVY. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF AN S10, BLAZER, ASTRO OR ANY OTHER UNIT COMES FROM THE FACTORY IN THIS SIZE RANGE?

THANKS

Thanks for the reply. I plan to run a small block chevy, somewhere around 400-430 hp. Don't know how much horsing around I might do, but I want it to stay under there.

Following rear ends are 48" to 49" backing plate to backing plate, add 4" to 5" for standard drum brakes: 1971 Colt, 1972 Cricket, 1972-75 Datsun Pickup, 1972-73 Mazda. The strength of all of these is questionable if you are running a strong motor which seems only fitting for a Willys.

Don't know about you but if I have horses under the hood there will be a time I horse around. Your call but you definately need a 9 inch ford, none are that narrow. Choices to me are have one narrowed or buy one of the housings that are now available. Price completed won'l be all that different and the new 9 inch housings look cleaner more like the 57 through 59 ford housing. Good luck

i don"t know where you are located, however you should call Gary Martz of Martz chassis in

bedford Pa. He ia an excellent choice on affordable custom 9" rears. He can help you with any suspension to make it an easy installation. Good luck.

Thanks guys. No matter which way I consider, it seems like the 9" Ford is the way to go. I might as well go on and order one like I want and move on.

IT IS GOING UNDER A 33 WILLYS COUPE. MY FENDER TO FENDER INSIDE DIMESION IS 59". I THINK THE GRANADA IS TOO WIDE. I NEED TO STAY PRETTY NARROW.

Hey Doss, That will be a good chore finding one that small. I'm currently looking for a rear end for my 38 chevy. I know that the s-10 rears are 58" bolt flange to bolt flange. The ford 8"are also 58". I had a 60" in the car with 14" wheels, on standard offset and they were under the car. The 58 will allow me to run 15/17" rears with a good offset.

I agree with gm34, look at the new housings that are offered in mags like Street Rodder. The price is right and you will be able to have axles cut at the same time so you know they will fit. When the dust settles $1000 is not uncommon! Good news is that you will never have to look at it or repair it again. If you use a toyota or something like that put a brick under the gas pedal.
