Anyone out there know what the mounting hole spacing is center to center of a manual Mustang II rack and pinion unit?

Thanks

I'm putting an IFS under my 33 Willys. The crossbar I purchased from Fat Man has the holes at 10" O.C. I guess instead of narrowing the unit on the ends, it will need narrowing in the middle. Anyone know how much trouble that is?

Thanks!

I had to narrow my rack 8 1/2" to fit my '33 Willys. Actually it's real easy. I used the later '79 manual rack because it's cheaper and the mounting points will have to be changed anyway. Find a good machine shop. Determine how much you need to shorten it (hardest part). Take the ends off the assembly and remove the rack. Take it to a machine shop and let them cut the end opposite the teeth and rethread it. You can cut the tube and put the rack back together. No welding!!!! Again, the trick is to figure how much to narrow. If you don't do this right you will have bump steer. Good luck.

The distance is exactly 16.00 inches, for '74-80 racks, anyway. Late-model Mustangs are a little wider. Some front x-member manufacturers provide oblong holes to accomodate both racks.

Doss, there are only a few things that strike fear to my heart, April 15th and going thru Atlanta. If you need help with the front end geometry and how much to cut out e-mail me direct so that we won't bore others.

Jerry
