Some pictures of where I am.. FINALLY got the front end cut out (anybody need a straight axle?), got my Mustang A-arms all prettied up for Jim (HA!), and got my tilt steering column ready to go. Now to have the boxing plates cut, and start putting at least the front end back together! Mark

Thanks-- getting the boxing plates cut. Just about ready to do the heavy welding! I have all the parts for the front end now. This will be a big piece out of the way. Fortunately/unfortunately... I did get that big promotion. So I may have to quit on the project here very shortly and put it in storage depending on what happens with my house-- need to sell it now.

I got the boxing plates cut. I was able to fit the crossmember. It fit perfectly with some minor trimming. Because the frame rails vary in width as they go forward-back. I will have to slightly bend the boxing plates to make them fit square against the crossmember and properly inside the frame rails... First I have to get it all cleaned off-- so a couple days of cleaning and painting is ahead before I can actually get the welding done. But I am excited about how it is looking! MC

That looks great-- I envy that you are that far! I do have my tranny done too. Just got my Lokar shifter in from Speedway-- looks great! I want to tear into the engine rebuild really bad, but me getting this new job has really F'ed things up. I want to keep as much intact as I can since I will probably have to put it down for awhile. Now, I am trying real hard to liquidate parts so I don't have to move them. Somebody make me a reasonable offer on a 10 bolt GM posi! That would allow me to throw the husk of the Camaro away!!!!

Oh NO... I relish the idea of bolting stuff back on! Welding is not my forte-- but, I can spin wrenches... I am working on getting the bushing pressed or pounded back into the A-arms... then it will be no time before I get the strut rods welded and the whole front end back together! (Famous Last Words). Today I finally pulled the rest of the parts out of the donor car so I can send it to the scrap heap. Pulled out it's spine (body wiring harness), and rear end (hopefully I can re-sell it). Doesn't look much like a Z28 anymore!

Good weekend! Got the strut rod mounts fabricated and welded in. Installed the strut rods, springs, and shocks. Test fitted the engine about 4 times and cut the engine mounts to fit, and welded in. Because the LT1 has an idler pully on the bottom, it created fitment problems. I had to mount it a few inches higher than I would have otherwise, I also shifted it about an inch to the driver side for clearance... can't go more or I would have steering and exhaust clearance problems.. Please see the front view picture-- you can see how tight it is. I want to put an undersized idler on there for more room-- it is TIGHT. CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH A PART NUMBER or supplier? Otherwise-- lots of good progress!

Thanks Shine-- found another idler pulley that is 1.5" smaller. That should free me up .75" of clearance and still work with the P/S pulley. It always seems to be something. Steering and pedal fittment next. then the big job of removing the body and doing the rear suspension. One step at a time. BTW the strut mounts came out really good. I welded them to the bottom of the frame on a thick plate so it had a big footprint and lots of meat to adhere to. Should be strong as heck. You can see it in the side view.

Got the 3.625" (Ford) pulley in today. It fit PERFECTLY. I will have to get a slightly shorter belt, bu t problem SOLVED. My buddy also got a nice set of stainless block hugger headers that would not fit his application-- he is selling them to me at about 1/2 price to get rid of them-- another nice stroke of luck! I test fitted them and they are perfect as well.
