I see on the Goodguys website that the Great American Nationals has moved its date and location. This event was on the decline and lost participants to Ocean City MD that was held on the same May weekend. The new schedule shows the event is now the last weekend of Sept. 2008, and will be held at the Pocono International Speedway. Somebody will have check my laptimes when I get there.

If Frank comes in the roadster, I hope he has his "butt warmer" installed. It could get cool by late September in the Poconos.

Not surprised, Al. Is it that those California dudes have NO IDEA what the East coast weather potential is this time of year, or is it a total disregard for for the fans and participants??? I say this because I have just returned (1 hour ago) from standing ankle deep in the rain, not to mention the pucker factor the cold and dampness has created, after attending the Good Guys Southeast Nationals here in Charlotte. For years now, (that's right, I said years) we have been screaming that this event is always at least 1 week too late (one of the top 5 places I have ever been the coldest in my life was at this Charlotte event bout 5 years ago) for our fall season. I think they may have recieved some conformation to our plea today, however. The attendance today was by far, the worst spectator turn out I have yet to see. Imagine being able to park your show car, pretty much anywhere you want, at any time. It happened in Charlotte today. And, yeah, I know. Keep complaining and with the low attendance numbers, GG's will threaten to move this event elsewhere. Well, GG's, with Bruton 90% sure He's gonna shut down, sell and move this speedway, we have bigger concerns right now. Besides, I'm gettin tired of wondering if I have to mount the Party Wagon up with snow tires or mud tires the night before your event. Please, just move this event up a week.
O.K., Al. I'm finished with the soap box now. P.S....Gees, Al. I have a confession to make. With ever new post you make, I find myself spending a bit more than what might be considered a normal amount of time, reviewing the photos you have submitted on this site. You got some purdy models AND,I ain't refuring to your cars. Thank You.....................................................

its called fall and it ain't predictable and becides it has been 10 weeks or more without rain along the east. had people come by today and they said some peoples wells have run dry in Maryland because of no rain has happened around here also. This event was in july at first and then everyone would say it was too hot I don't know the answer but alot of visitors today came by and said they were going to other shops and tours just because they could. Yeah carpro mama did bring me a new coffee pot this afternoon will make sure it works next year. Hope all that are going to the show will enjoy the dry 70 degree day they are predicting for tomorrow and sunday. Have fun RED

after reading the posts this spring about the declining attendance at GG hershey( after a surprisingly good first year) i`m not surprised at all. GREED took it`s toll.$69 rooms became $84 rooms and then became $129 rooms. instead of being thankful for an additional week of full occupancy, they decided each room was worth nearly twice the off-peak rate. i`ve also heard horror stories about the food vendors. i don`t think rodders are cheap, but apparently the powers that be think that we`re STOOOOPIDD!!!-----------hershey got what it deserved. --JMHO

i know i'm getting kinda off the original topic, but JMHO hit on my biggest gripe with traveling to a show, last year it cost me 129 a nite to attend "Chrysler's at Carlisle" and i wasn't even at 3star hotel. that's price gouging in my book! if ya raise the price of plywood & generators in the wake of a hurricane its illegal, this isn't as catastrophic, but if it continues attendance to all these events will continue to decline. this is the 1st time in years my Dad hasn't made the trek to Charlotte. when they wouldn't let them camp at the track anymore, making them go to Tom Johnson camp grounds, it added the cost almost up to staying at a hotel. then when you figured the added fuel an RV used it exceeded the cost!!! he went to the Tampa show last month (NSRA event i think) just because he could drive over & back daily.

sorry, thats just my personnel pet peve, matt

Welcome to the the Car Show rip off scene. It's the same everywhere you go. The worst is the Shades of the Past where motels raise their rates by $100 for Friday and Saturday nights just because they can. How about food vendor's charging $3.00 for a bottle of water or the proverbial $5.00 hamburger? As far as events being held the wrong time of the year, the NSRA Nats has to top the list as temps for the first week in August in Louisville routinely are in the high 90's to low 100's making just walking the fairgrounds miserable. Just think how nice it would be if the event was held in late Semptember or early October. Remember car shows are held for one reason which is to make bags of money for the event organizer. Charging us a registration fee so they can charge spectators to see our cars just seems ridiculous. Maybe the continued drop in attendance at some of these events show the participants are getting tired of taking it in the shorts.

The hotel rates at Hershey weren't my problem, because I had a 35 minute commute from home. The Pocono site is a 2 + hr. drive for me and that will mean I'd have to think about a hotel this time, and I'm sure there aren't any budget priced rates in that area, especially since they've just opened the first casino there last week. The food at Hershey, by the way, was really bad and expensive.
I'll probably try Pocono the first year and decide if it will be the first and last for me. Hershey was already off my list after this year.

OH - Say Dave, you can find more cars and a couple models here : http://www.pbase.com/consoli

That's too bad about Charlotte. I wanted to go there next year.

Al, I thought you might have moved to Egypt or something? Hadn't heard from you? I was quite disappointed with GG at Hershey this year. You and others said the low car count was probably due to that other show in MD. Hershey was 6 / 7 hours for me........I'll have to look at an atlas and check this new venue. Whats up with the mention of casinos? That might be enough to get my wife to go?

Hey Bernie - They just opened the first casino at Mt. Airy in the Poconos. It's not too far from Long Pond and the Pocono Speedway. It's slots only. Gambling is not my thing, but you could bring your wife and drop her off at the casino for the weekend and go home broke!! In place of Hershey in May next year, I was planning to go to the Jalopyrama at Latimore Valley with the "Rat Rod" and "Kar Kulture" types.

???? Egypt ?? That's in Jersey, I think.

I'm sure as hell not surprised that they gave up on Hershey! They've done it before. GG used to be at Carlisle PA up until 1998, when they moved their apple cart over to Columbus Ohio. Carlisle had more than enough room for their event, what they didn't have was more cars. They only had about 2000, so off they went to Ohio, for even more space and more cars. I am sure it was strictly a business (money) decision, but after attending the second annual event at Hershey, I just new the event was likely to leave.

Hell they've been in 3 different cities in Florida in the past 5 years and may move again since Jacksonville was not a big event. They used to be in Conyers Georgia, for several years and gave up and went to Orlando. Now they are back at Atlanta. It is all about money, not cars, not participants, not membership.

As for the Charlotte show, we used to go every year. Then they changed the time from the 3rd weekend in October to the 4th weekend. It was cold sometimes during the 3rd weekend but it is usually cold on the 4th weekend. They took a good event and screwed it up by changing dates. If I need a car show fix, GG will not be the event I choose first. There are a lot of great independent shows and events each year, that far exceed the pleasure derived from GG.

Hey Bob - If you're going to Shrewsbury on Saturday (11-3), I plan on being there. This should be my last time out for the season. Look for my Plymouth (AKA the "Sage Coach") and I'll look for yours. The only "babe" that will be near my car this week would be my wife. LOL!

Between GOODGUYS , SPECIAL EVENTS and others that run car shows, Orphan is 100% correct its all about money, greed took its toll on some of these shows.. SPecial Events came into Bloomsburg Pa and totally ruin a good thing Chargeing 65 bucks to enter a car totally GREED. at that time I had the 34 plymouth coupe and park it outside the grounds and these assholes actually ran over to me with stupid green t shirts on and ask me why I park outside the fence. I simply reply and told them flat out if people want see that car they can see it for free as for me 65 bucks for me to show my car you people are crazy. and I walked away. As for Pocono the show will be a total FLOP thats my prediction what makes them think by moving a show 120 miles away is gonna bring income into there pocket there maggots striving on our hard earned money........ The hospital at Bloomsburg took over the show and its been going strong every year and only 15 bucks to show MY 2 CENTS

Al, I will look for you there. I usually try to park on tarmac edge near the grass across from the furniture store. The loud music can give my wife a migraine, so we park across the lot from the music wagon. The last one (this past Friday's Halloween cruise) got rained out. They may combine the two on Saturday, they have occassionally in the past. If the weather is nice, I will probably get there about 9 AM (in time for breakfast), because the parking areas get full quickly. You can usually find a spot, just might not be on the tarmac. Participation at the Friday evening shows has been so heavy recently the best time to arrive is about 2 hours before the event, so I figure 9 AM might be good for the Saturday show (11 AM to 3 PM). Saturdays are big shopping days for that market, so it should be interesting with all of the regular shoppers plus 600 to 800 event cars.

Hope to see you there.
