The 4L60 was only made in '93 I believe. It is actually a 700R4 with a electic speedo (gear driven) thing called a VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor). The VSS is where the speedo cable usually comes out. The 4L60E has more "electric" stuff (sensors) back there and it has a transponder with a notched thing called a reluctor on it.... all this stuff is in the short tailpiece. There is also another electrical plug above where the pan is.

On the top of the price list part, there is a link that says "Download Entire Speed Sensors Chapter" .. Click on that and read the .pdf document. It should help you. The guy that wrote it is Mike Knell. He is a fuel injected engine swap God. Not pretty stuff-- but he KNOWS his stuff.

I think the short answer is that all that stuff is different kinds of speed sensors. I think the more important question is which ECM do you have (which dictates what connections you need to make to it). I am lucky as I got a '93 setup.. last year of the non-electric tranny. Mine still has a mechanical detent cable. I am close to you and would be glad to help you as I can. I am new to this-- as this is my first "full-blown" EFI engine swap. It is tough to me but I am far from overwhelmed. I understand the concepts-- and I will research and ask questions until I am comfortable.

Pizanno....Is that detent cable for the shifting or the passing gear?
Thanks all for your help.I really just wanted to know which trans.I have since I assumed it was the E.I don't have a problem since this eng.and trans setup was in car I purchased. The seller told me it was a 96 LT1 Corvette eng.and 97 4L60 trans.the eng.does have alum.heads and all the power I want and trans.works great.Italianguy do ever go to Plant City meet or Dade City?I need a reminder of dates for both of these meets since I want to go.Thanks again all,Gene
Roby-- the cable on the 4L60 controls everything. Shifts, line pressure, etc. It serves a similar function as the modulator valve on older trannys.
Gene-- I have my LT1 package in parts in my garage now. I did some desktop dyno work on it, and even leaving it pretty stock, I should be pushing 375 HP and be super street drivable and dependable with excellent fuel mileage. My last hopped-up SBC only gave me around 12 MPG. I am looking forward to the fuel injection and overdrive tranny.
I haven't been to Plant City or Dade City yet. I have gone to the Saturday night cruise in Kissmmee a few times (very nice). I go to the Plant City monthly bikefest on occasion, and want to get to the Webster swap meet soon. Let me know when you plan to go and I can try to meet you and say "Hey!"
