I had to go out and buy some spark plugs yesterday (I didn't really HAVE to)... But, there are so many different plugs on the market today. I'm sure the *ahem* opinionated folks here have to have a preference! Can we have a light discussion of what plugs people run? What works, and why?!

Too much hype around plugs, use the correct reach and heat range and be done with it. plugs with precious metals on the tips last longer. not much else to say about a spark plug.

That's my thoughts too 6-guns. WAY back in the day... We were family friends of the Amato's (Joe Amato fame). They swore by Champions. But fast forward to today-- you need to be running platinums at least. I became a big fan of Bosch when they came out-- but once had an electrode break off of a Bosch Platinum (un-nerving) in an engine. Since then I would only run the better Bosch Plat 2 or +4's. I also have had a bunch of foreign (rice) cars-- so I have become a fan of NGK. For the money, I run NGK platinums now.

I have used Autolite for years, Came from racing background. I agree with Italianguy, Platinums are the way to go.Everyone has their preference.

If you have a small block chevy with headers and need a short plug you can use a autolite AR135 which is a racing plug a lot of the stock cars use or a ACCEL 576S which is also a short plug. It gives you clearance for the wires. They both have worked for me.

I have used platium plugs in my street rod and experienced hard starting. Changed to a regular A/C type plug and it ran and started fine. It is only my opinion but platinum plugs work best on fuel injection. If you have a carb stick to the regular type plug.

I miss the "Autolite" commercial from the 70's where there were 8 guys dressed like spark plugs dancing around!

You Know srodder-- that may be true.. the platinums have a small electrode-- I guess easy to foul. But, I have always used them with jacked up coils (Mallory) on carbed engines with no problems. Never gave it much thought. My old buddy (trusted mechanic) who was a car nut always liked Bosch, Accel. Splitfire, and NGK. I used to run Autolites on all my old 60's muscle cars.

I use a lot of GM create motors so I go by thier specification "Delco" only because its not my car and I make sure everything goes stricly by the book until everything is finished and delivered. Beyond that I like the NGKs & Bosch

Well, I've learned NOT to use Bosch Platinum plugs in turbo engines... The combustion pressures and temps cause the teeny, tiny platinum tip to migrate out of the porcelain and short the plugs out... Regular Bosch are ok. I also, like Leon, use AC-Delco in any GM product. Motorcraft/Autolite in F**ds.. Now for the odd one... Mopars seem to be very sensitive to anything other than Champion plugs... Back in the late 80's/early 90's, if we had a poorly running Mopar come in the shop, we'd check with the customer and see if they had just replaced the plugs and ask what brand...If they weren't Champion plugs, we'd offer to switch them out .. Something about the resistors in the plugs would mess up the ign some how.

Yeah-- Like I said-- I had a Bosch Plat. insulator break off and discintegate in an engine.. somehow no damage. I was lucky I guess. But it soured me to using that kind of plug for sure.

I agree with Leon and rnrg8d. Gm products, use AC-Delco Motorcraft/Autolite in Ford. I'll take it one step farther andsay that this applies to all tune-up parts for these engines. Caps n rotors, wires etc. (keep in mind that I'm implying this applies to mostly stock builds)

Just replaced a set of ac in sbc [stock] with a little over 100,000 mi on them still going. put the big buck bosch in another sbc they lasted about 2000 mi an fouled out. so needless to say ac for me,ant got no fords no mo so no autolites.
