I've learned some of you are interested in the Permastar finish that Edelbrock has been using on their manifolds and water pumps and want to see if a powder coating was available to match it so your engine compartment looks uniform.

After three and a half days of phone calls, Dave, the friendly and helpful Tech Supervisor over at Edelbrock, pointed me in the right direction and I was finally able to track down and speak with one of the co-owners of Goodrich Technologies, the company that holds the trademark/patent to the formula. I explained the reason I was calling him was to get a small sample to send to my powder supplier to get a color match.

The guy went ballistic. "Listen honey, it's not a powwwwwwwwwder, it's a prooooooocess. If you're interested in learning how to do our prooooocess, you'll need a million, million an' a half dollars worth of equipment and a clean room, and a bunch of other stuff that I'm suuuuure you won't be interested in." I told him my supplier had over 6,500 different colors of powders available and all I wanted to do was see a little sample of it. I wasn't interested in infringing on his trademark or learning his secrets -- just trying to make my customers happy. "Do you know what chroooooome looks like? That's what Permanstar is, sweet cheeks."

When he then started yelling at me, I thanked him for his time and hung up in the middle of his next tirade.

If any of you are more successful in dealing with this condescending, belligerent as-- ... oops, person ... than I was and can get a sample to send over, I'll be more than happy to try to get a matching powder. Here's the company info if anyone wants to give him a call and brighten their own day ... I believe sunshine can be reached at extension 12.

Al and Tammy, I'm sorry. I tried!

I hope to God that the Endura finish is made by someone else.

Oh Leeanna you poor gal. I hate those type of guys who talk down to you since you have a lovely feminine voice. I am tempted to call him just to make him think the world is being over run by women wanting to take his job! I am sure he gets plenty of brain surgeons calling him everyday wanting a shortcut to the coating on their intakes but for goodness sake this isn't a military secret and he could have been nice about it. Look at all the bad press it is getting him. Thank you for trying. We will have to try to get one of the Intakes to you for comparison.

Look into the Alsa corp. Its probably the same basic process. Its been out for a couple of years. The cool thing is you can do plastics also.

Being a lifelong motorhead chick in a man's world, I've dealt with his type more than I care to admit.

Tammy -- that's a great idea! Ya cracked me up. Billy said he might call the guy too just to see if he gets the same warm welcome.

The good news is that Dave at Edelbrock told me they're phasing out their use of the Permastar finish in favor of the mirror black-chrome Endura style, so Goodrich won't be getting a lot of work from Edelbrock anymore. Dave himself is cutting off a couple samples with his tin snips and will be sending them to me by UPS in the next few days.

I'll let you all know what I can find out.

And if Cartman wants to give him a nice nut-kick, I'll be the first in line to cheer him on.

But I wasn't the one who killed Kenny.

Far as I'm concerned Permastar is passe`. Endurashine is much, much nicer. Don't know anyone who has actually put Permastar pats on and left them on. Time for Edelbrock to move on.
