after sitting idle for a few years, i've finally started back on my 36 ford truck project. here are a few pics of the work to date. the chassis is a fatmans, w/ air ride front, 2004 ford 4.6 sohc w/ police package, aode, 9" versailles disc rear. the cab has been suicided, with a "mucho time involved" cut down 50 ford car dash.

good concept with the dash, these trucks always look great, there is one at York every year that has been adapted to car front sheet metal, amazing.

The beauty of using a car cab is the extra room you gain and the longer doors.... I had a friend in calif that did one... it looked factory....

got the cab & front end mounted up & fitted over the weekend! everything went together really well for the initial fitting. i'm running into alot of strange things with this fatmans chassis. the rails are formed different from a stock rail frame & things that originally needed spacers dont, while other points that originally mated against the frame need spacers. the 4.6 sohc is fitting in pretty well. good clearance all around.

the cab hasn't been chopped. i don't prefer the 35-36 trucks to be chopped, they get really wide & long very quick. just messes up the lines if you know what i mean. got the column hung & the seat base lowered 1 1/2" today. also made the e-brake cable brackets to mount the cables to the versailles disc setup.

here's a pic of a '36 we helped build a couple of years back. I know it is a Chev, instead of a Ford, but still similar lines, just great trucks

al,

legroom is great! i'm 5'10" & i can stretch my legs out straight with the seat back. after the headrests are cut off of the fiero seats they will slide back another couple inches. they hit the cab reinforcement that runs under the rear window now.

davy,

chevy had the right idea of styling the mid 30's truck front ends to match the car sheetmetal. should have kept that policy for 1 more year with the 39 model though... would make for a killer ride now...

finally got time to install the new hagan triple opening hood hinge assy. & new hoodsides this weekend. (been laying hardwood floors, painting walls & trim & got new carpet in the house last week.. the price to play with "our" toys gets high at times !!!!) had to get solid hoodsides & add "blisters" from so-cal to clear the heads on the 4.6. i REALLY like the hagan hood hinge assembly!! it's really a nice setup.

always liked those trucks too bad I am too tall to enjoy one. Since you put the 4.6 motor in the truck you can let me have the 3 deuce setup for the big block ford I see in the one picture. RED

got a few more items done today. the column drop has been fabricated ( wanted something tapered & curved to better blend into the dash), along with the overhead console that will hold the radio. i will also be adding small extentions to each side to house the headlight & wiper switches. i'm aiming at keping the dash smooth & "knob free". also have the new guages recessed about 1" into the original bezels & glass. they kinda look like they are floating in space.

progress has slowed a little over the holidays, but have a few more items fitted, the lower dash & a/c cover are in progress, some cardboard mockup patterns made & the tailgate fitted i'm using a 37 gate to get rid of the monster "barn door" hinges. the gate will pivot on home made teflon hinges. almost ready to order wheels!

well, have some more things done ( trying to keep up with "meangene"! ) but not many "photogenic" items. i did get all the underdash items transferred to metal & installed & the new tailights are in. after years of planning on installing stock type 36 car front & truck rear bumpers, i've done an "about face" & decided to fab up my own versions. while the originals look nice, they just don't flow with the body lines to suit me. see what you all think of the new front bumper. i spent all day saturday with the torch bending this thing. it's 3/4 solid rod, so should be pretty sturdy.

there are two dams nearby. old hickory dam & lake is about 10 mi. north of the show site & percy priest is about 6mi east of the site, right on interstate 40. i'm actually in between the two, about 4 mi each way so will be close either way. as time gets closer, we'll plan on getting together, maybe round up a few other "ruffians" from the site that might be attending.

haven't had much to comment on lately, just been doing some fitting & finish bodywork. i did finally decide on the layout for the a/c condensor cover & control mount. i still have a few mounting brackets to add for the under dash skirt, but most of the fabrication work is finished. the control mount shape mimics the side mirrors & tailights, so i guess "oval" is the theme on this one! i've been working hard enough this week to wear out my "shop helper"

the bed floor is fabbed up & fitted now. i'm reversing the usual wood floor with steel strips to steel floor panels with wood inserts. we did the same with my dad's truck, & it worked out well. i just need to drill the holes & get the wood inserts planed down just a hair to fit. i'm also thinking about mounting this old trunk in the bed for some dry storage. what do you all think? yes or no?
