Hello all,

I am looking at shaving the door handles on my '40 Merc. coupe. Does anyone have recommendations on a certain vendor for a kit? Will a "standard" 35 pound kit do the job reliably? Thanks

If you go with bear claws you can go with the lighter pull solenoids. The heavy duty ones that Watsons sell ,work with originals.

My 34 has handles, but my 57 has been shaved including the key lock holes. Only a problem if the battery goes dead, unless you have an emergency cable hook up. In the future, I would have handles on any streetrod/hotrod, but on customs I would probably stay with the shaved look.

Definitely keeps unwanted and nosy people out of the car, most can't figure out how to get the doors open, which is a very good thing.

Anybody ever think of putting on late 90's GM handles? They fit flush in the door. I think they would work very well on alot of cars and would look good in the process.

Thanks for all your advice. I want some way to keep out some of the rif raf. Brian41, I did think about the flush mount handles but didn't go with the look I was going for. I hope to get some new paint on this thing in a few weeks or months. Depends on how many times I mess up the body work. Will post pictures when it gets done.

Keep out the riff raff eh? How about the new S&W .50 Caliber hand gun???

I'm really picky about door handle swaps, as so few actually look "right" on a street rod. Depending on the style of the car, Mazda Miata handles are about the best looking ones I've seen. And the key hole is located right in the handle.

Personally, I like shaved handles too. Had one truck with shaved handles and I NEVER had a problem. Maybe I set it up differently than others but I'd do it again!
