Well after talking to Brian41 the other day at K-zoo,it became apparent that I am still learning. My transmission problems have been bugging me for two months. Nothing like going down the road at 70+ and having a white smokescreen behind you. I did everything I could think of to cure this damn thing. So I changed it out for another and realized how much of a gap I had between the flywheel and converter. That had to be the problem! I still changed it!

if it was only at high speeds it may have been overfilled . it may have had a universal dipstick that never had the tube cut off. been there.

It was a 400 and it really wasnt overfilled. And didnt do it all the time. I thought about the overfilled thing but ran it low enough that it was not shiftin right and still did it. I'm pretty sure it wasnt engaging the pump enough.

Greg if the convertor had a big gap between the pump and convertor it would leak out the front seal, not the vent. There is still another problem in your first 400. How's the new one working?

A bad modulator will suck the oil out of the trans and it will burn in the engine causing a smoke cloud. Gregs trans was blowing oil out the vent.
