Still driving the wife's car, cause I am slow.

Spent the weekend with a pipe bender and some 2" stainless tubing. Thanks to Eric I remembered to leave clearance around the oil filter and starter.

Dave,

What kind of bender do you have? Is it manual or hydraulic? I would like to make my own pipes for my Chevy p/u project. Thanks for the help.

I borrowed an industrial tube bender. It has electric hydraulic pump, a ram and a die for the bends. Almost all industrial rental supply shops have them. The only problem is that the industrial die is not as tight a radius as the muffler shops use. On the tail pipes I ended up cutting a V slot and welding it up to get a tighter curve. It did leave wrinkles on the inside of the radius, but this will not affect the exhaust. i would prefer a mandrel bent exhaust but around here that is extremely expensive. The stainless mufflers came used from the flea market. Total cost is under $100.

Stainless Works sells stainless exhaust bends and angles (90, 45, 180 etc) with no bend marks in them...and they are flared on one end so you can put together an exhaust system with little or no bending...they also have very cool hangers... check out my "Extreme Makeover" section on the stainless exhaust....ask for Al Noe and tell him I sent ya...
