Sounds like tire kickers to me. If they were really serious about buying it they wouldn't be fishing for discounts.

When looking to buy something I expect that I am responsible for shipping charges. Whether I'm around the block or 2000 miles away, it's of no consequence to the seller. Why would I expect someone to take $1000 of the price because I live so far away? If I lived around the corner from you would you take $1000 because gas prices are so high?

Move on without these people. They're looking to rob you.

You know it is pretty easy on Auto Transporters Direct (the green button above the ads that says shipping) to figure what it will cost to ship to a certain zip code. Enclosed Vehicle Transport and TLC Auto Transporters may have something on their sites too. I would set your price and suggest they ask for a discount if they are shipping two due to a trade. You should not be punished for taking a trade or selling out of state.

your the seller. if they want to trade thats their problem. i do not deal with people who have to get a deal on everything. they are nothing but a pain in the ....... i would rather set on the car longer than to get into that bs.

Bob, we've encountered the same thing here in Tennessee with our 71 GMC 1/2 ton project truck. It's advertised on SR and another popular racing site, and it seems the only people interested in it have no cash but are willing to trade (most often their junk) for it. Sure, we're always open to Chevy and Mopar trades, especially parts -- we've got enough projects right now haaaa -- but we've had people offer to trade 3 rowboats, a 50 cc kiddie bike and $500, and a wrecked 94 Cadillac. The Cadillac guy asked me how much I'd chip in for gas if he came to pick it up from Idaho. It's got a fresh 350 boasting 60 lbs of oil pressure and a new 3 speed floor conversion, and is a typical Lee Racing Engines small block -- the thing runs like a big dawg. It needs a little body work but is in fine shape for its age. These people are on crack, I swear.

Maybe I'm gonna start something with this comment, but I thought wars were supposed to boost the economy. From what I've seen, no one has any money to spend on much of anything right now. But they sure wanna clean out their yards and garages. Just my two cents' worth as always.

Good luck with the sale of your car Bob! I feel for ya, believe me.

Here is some advise, from my own experience, don't make the trade until you've seem the car in person. I traded for a car that looked great in the pictures, was awesome with all kinda polished goodies etc, then after it's delivered, found out that it was only a show trailer queen, 6 pounds of oil pressure, burnt carbs iffy wiring. Was only made to be driven on/off the traier. Took 6 months and many $$$ to make it right. Then I took a 10k loss on selling it as compared to the car that I traded for it. The deal was done over a 3000 mile distance and there really wasn't much I could do to recouperate other that chalking it up as "experience" or as I say "Tuition" towards an education. A plane ticket, no matter what the cost, is worth it compared to hassle I went through with that deal. Just my two cents. I agree with Phoenix.....many of these traders are trading nice looking junk, til they get something that they can sell and reallycash in on. They do it quite regularly too. I save many personal emails, especially when selling stuff. When I look back over cars that I have advertised, I notice a trend in the same people and stories involved in trade offers. Not all are bad people, but just enough are......my two cents
