I sure wished somebody would come out with new headlight lenses for the bigger headlights (early 30's) so it would aim the lights instead of just throwing the light out infort of you. Even if you put sealed beams behind them it still defuses the light.

Any of you companies out there reading this. make some glass ones that would aim the light. i know there is alot of rodders that would buy them.

Know what you mean. The Willys lenses are factory stock and geared for 25 MPH at best. The flutes just spread the light around and don't focus it out in front where it belongs. Lots have to do with the reflector also. Lets face it the lights of the 30s only had to light the way for a 30 MPH car (and road). Overdriving a headlight is easy with todays roads, horse power and speed limits. I had a 76 BMW motorcycle that had the best. A good beam and a dark "pie" shape toward the left lane on low beam. High beam the dark spot went away and with a 100watt bulb farmers got up to feed the chickens.

It may sound silly, but, we will upgrade our brakes, suspensions, add seatbelts, etc. Why not just do away with the headlight lens for purposes of safety. (put in a nice retro-looking halogen or sealed beam). I actually spent this weekend putting in mounting buckets in my headlight cans.

I like the tri-bar ones with the modern replaceable bulb.. would be neat to drill a "stealth" turn signal bulb into the housing. For now I am just using regular old 7" halogen sealed beams too.

Trouble with the Willys is the lenses point toward the sky and the buckets are odd shapped to redirect the beam to the ground. I replaced the bulbs with 9003s but the reflector and lens sort of zeros the bulb out. Could mount Helis on the roof I guess.

Anybody think about lights under the car that swing down like the license plate thingy... could be aircraft landing lights if you wanted (long as they shine on the road and not in oncoming traffic eyes)...

Rick I agree with you, I have halogen bulbs in mine but problem is that the light is scattered because of the cut of the glass. I even tried a brighter bulb without any luck. I was thinking of adapting the lenses and reflectors from a Jeep Liberty. Although the lens is smoth the shape of the reflector is what gives the light it's pattern. they are slightly smaller though.
