guys, if you have a spare moment, say a prayer for me. as of tomorrow i'm back on the 37 sedan delivery. someone cut all the floors & rockers out, added a big block firewall & lower cowl extensions & had the body blasted. that was before the fire...... everyone should have one like this in the shop!! lol!!

sadly yes i have. but it was the truck that burnt along with a hole in the roof of my shop. it had been pretty much ruint by some hack trying to chop it. should have passed on it. it is now a critter garage up on the hill good luck as it looks like you have some chemical issues to deal with in the metal. fire does strange things to steel.

Where do you even start ? I have had some big projects, but you have 1 hell of a job ahead of you.

I would get that body off the chassis first and put it on a rolling stand, then I personally weld some small angle iron all through the interior, before you start pullin it aprt. Thats a lot of work. Good luck !

since those original pics were taken, i've put about 100 hrs into this thing & it's taking shape. the most time consuming part so far has been tracking down the parts i needed to follow the plan i have set for the build. i'm removing all the wood except for the quarter braces that run from the "B" pillars to the rear door. i hunted 3 months for a useable pair of "B" pillars from a 2dr sedan to graft in place of the wood originals & now have the doors hung, & all the floors , rockers & body channels made & installed. i fabbed up steel rear floor panels & moved the "kick up" back 10" for more legroom & possibly a small tool compartment . i'm working on the rear pan & door at the moment. any of you guys have a simple way to remove the wood from the upper rear door window area? the outer sheetmetal is folded over & nailed to the wood. if worse comes to worse, i'll leave the wood there but maybe holesaw some pieces out to lighten it up. here are the updated pics of the floor:

thanks bro! i'll need the big guy on my side during this one! made some good progress on the rear door & jamb area today. after spending most of the week shooting pagan gold & candy strawberry in 105 degree heat, it was a pretty easy day.

well, i've made some more progress this week on the delivery. been working on the rear door area & tailpan. i had to make the passengers side rear jamb, as it was completely missing, then fabbed up a loop inside out of 1/2" & 3/4" square tubing, to replace the original wood parts. after that, installed the new hidden hinges. spent most of the evening last night fabbing up the new channel for the door bracing, the lower door skin patch panel , the inner tailpan patch & the new three piece outer tailpan. the three parts consist of the lower jamb sill, & an upper & lower outer skin so i could try to retain the original body line that is missing on almost all the 37 deliveries i've seen. most i've looked at have a one piece panel & the builder fades the body line around the tailight area. this thing might be saveable yet!

not for the 37 deliveries. except for the quater panel patches, everything from the "b" pillar back has to be hand fabricated. i even thought that since the rear fenders are actually 35-36 sedan fenders, that a tailpan for a slantback sedan might be modified, but no dice. i've hand made every piece for the back half of this vehicle. the quarter patches, rockers & lower front dorr inner & outer bottom panels are ems. they make excellent panels & i check with them first on everything.

made some more progress this week. i now have all the rear tailpan & lower door inner & outer panels tacked together & figured out a fix for the front door problem. i put hidden hinges on the front doors, which pivot & swing at a different angle from the stock exposed hinges. the doors would only open 14" before hitting the fenders. (downs corrected this by shortening the fenders 2" & lengthening the boards.) i ended up radiusing the front corner of the door & will add a filler onto the new running boards to keep the gap & cutting & reshaping the rear part of the front fender for more clearance. these two mods allow the door to open over 30" now (about 75 degrees)hope to have this thing going to the blaster in a week or so. still have some welding & alot of weld grinding to do.

have some more pieces fitted over the weekend. all the front sheetmetal is now on, with the hood needing the majority of the work. sems someone welded up some splits with a stick welder years ago & the heat drew the front part down like an eagles beak. had to recut the splits & straighten. also fitted & extended the running boards to better blend into the front fenders & started narrowing ( aprox 2") & reshaping a pair of 35 sedan fenders to fit the sedan delivery rear. see the pic from the rear, the black line is the fender peak that lies about an inch away from the body on a sedan.all the fitting & fabbing of fender braces was done with a straightedge clamped down the side so it's "laser level" straight.

been a couple months since i've posted anything on this one, but progress continues! i've been working the roof for the past couple of weeks. the fire had almost ruined it to the point of no return. the heat had screwed up the molecular structure of the metal to where it was like annealed aluminum. it was warped up & felt like a sack of walnuts & the slightest amount of heat applied would raise or lower spots almost an inch instantly. i ended up curving "bows" out of 1/2" square tubing to the shape of the roof & fastening them to the roof with fusor from the inside to give some structure, then working the metal back into shape a section at a time. (whew! a big P.I.A.) if the rest of the parts arrive this week, i should be tearing this one down for final prepwork & paint in a few weeks!

what a long strange trip it has been as someone who can relate to how much work is in it you must be one of two things.............. wore out or young . looks outstanding my man. a lesser man would have said " to hell with it " long ago.

All of you guys that can do this kind of work just amaze me. Steve it looks incredible especially when you consider the original pictures. I am like Dennis curious what color or colors you are planning for it. My wife's favorite car is the 37 Ford. Man a huge compliment from Shine, so you know you are doing outstanding work!

thanks guys, it's the positive comments that keep me going! it's funny, i have people that drop by the shop that haven't been by since the beginning stages of this one. they look it over & then say " whatever happened to that OTHER one you had in here a while back?" when they find out thats the same one, they have to look it over again. in reply to shines question, i think worn out is a pretty good description while building this one & the 36 truck at the same time. colors have been chosen for this one, with a dark "sinclair" green on the bottom half, & an off white vanilla going above the beltline & on the steelies.

been a while since i posted any updates on this one. been making some progress the past couple weeks. the front end is pretty well lined up with only some work on the right fender to complete. the new guages & fuel filler are in, along with the steel tubing in the winshield area (going flush fit instead of the crank out. the modifications to the rear area of the front fenders for door clearance with hidden hinges worked out great. another week or so & it will be time to start tearing down for paint !!

eric,

those really are "custom" wheels. stock s-10 wheels i machined into unilugs to fit ford & chev. patterns. no sense in taking up a bunch of space with different sets of "roll-arounds"!! looking at putting a set of steelie artillery wheels on to be a little different. this one's getting an original mullins trailer to tow behind & i think the spoked artillery wheels will tie everything together.

again, thanks for the comments guys. hopefully, the next set of pics will be a little more colorful!
