I was forced to change my alt on the truck this we. Why would it not put out any charge until you rev it to 3grand from a start up? This is the second alt I had that did this -after you do it it will charge at idle until you turn it off and start it again.

One wire? That's what I have been told about one wires'. Something about having to rev to over 3k to get internal regulator to begin charging. Once you have done the 3K routine, it runs and charges fine. I have a one wire powermaster in my 57 Olds. If I don't do the 3K bit, the ammeter never indicates that it is charging properly, once I hit the 3K the ammeter reflects the proper charging. I always push it to 3K on warm up and then it's done until I restart.

Yup- thats what mine does. So it must be a normal thing! Never had a mech fuel pump And an alternator go at the same time. I love standing on my head-swetting like the beer drinker that I am!

All one wire altenators require the high rev to get them to charge, it is normal, although the actual rpm may vary by brand. The lowest i have encountered is 2000 rpm.

I know a lot of people here prefer the mechanical fuel pumps, but I have always had electric. Nice to be able to throw the inline switch and shut it down. Good for anti-theft too. Other than that, the electrics click so I know when the carbs are primed and ready to fire.

Dixie, Not going to Charlotte this year. Will be in for the Tampa Nats in October. Probably last show of season for me, although I wouldn't mine doing the Turkey Run since I didn't last year (broken arm). Some of the family down your way are talking about doing the Frog Follies in 08. Nothing definite yet. Springfield is a possibility but also not definite yet.
