I'm maikn progress on my 29 Tudor, but sometimes it's 2 steps forward and 1 step back. I just got my car back from the muffler shop today. The guy did a really nice job working with the room restrictions under a Model A, but I think I screwed up a bit. I didn't have an oil filter installed on the engine when I took the car over to the shop and it looks like there is now not sufficient room for it without re-doing part of the exhaust on that side. Somebody said I could use a remote filter and bolt it to the frame rails. Talk to me! Can this be done?

Robert Try an auto parts Place that sells race stuff. Adapters are made that bolt to the block where the filter goes and have fittings for in and out lines for remote filters. Then you can mount the filter wherever you want. With this setup you will need a few inches where the stock filter goes. Jack

Glad to hear you're making progress Robert... I screwed up today too by putting my hubcaps on before I finished tightening all the lug nut's... duh We all make mistakes I was going to suggest a remote oild filter as well... Big Don put one on his 41 convert and it worked out real nice....

Transdapt sells a nice looking kit, adapter, hoses and brackets. $49.95 at Summitt. They are easy to install, just screw on in place of filter and run hoses to new bracket. You will have to have room for 2 half inch hoses and a place to hang the filter. This compares to going back to the muffler shop and redoing the exhaust pipe. last thought........is there room for a shorty filter?

Robert--

Try a Wix #51069 shorty filter.

If that don't work-Don't use a remote.

Having seen your car--a remote wouldn't look right and it'll "garbage up" the engine compartment.

If the small filter won't work-Back to the exhaust shop and have him modify the exhaust.

Don't "Mickey Mouse" it now.

Good Luck

I agree with da34guy...... I'd call the exhaust shop and explain what happened..... but take a filter with you when you go back!

If you can't find the Wix, AC 454 is also pretty short.

Thanks a lot guys. I'll try a shorty filter first and see if that fits. The muffler guy said he'd modify the exhaust if that didn't work. Really appreciate all your input. Live and learn. At least I won't make the same mistake next time. Yeh right!

Ya gotta laugh! whenever you let your guard down with a street rod, ya get bit! Especially when it seem's like every thing that does work just barely fit's! fix the pipe!

Anybody know the dimension of a "shorty" oil filter?

I don't have one in front of me but the AC 454 has to be approximately 2 1/2" - 2 3/4".

gman. 2 3/4" would be great. I've got 3 1/2" clear between the oil filter seat and the exhaust. How well do these "shorty" filters work? People wonder why I'm doin everything on my car myself. It seems that everytime I let somebody else do any work, it gets screwed up and I wind up fixin it or doin it over. Maybe I'm too critical. Duh!

ROBERT, I USE A FRAM PH 30 ON DIANES 32, ITS 4 in LONG. HAVE NOT SEEN ONE SHORTER. YOU MUST HAVE A LEAST 1 in MORE TO REMOVE.

A Fram PH 30 is the same size as the AC 1218. The AC 454 is much shorter.

gman. Just got back from the Chevy dealer (and took my wife to lunch, which cost more than my parts) where I bought an AC 454 filter, but also had to purchase an oil filter adapter that wasn't included with my crate motor. Looks like this will clear my new exhaust just fine. Thanks for the input guys. Next question - any recommendations of a spray-on coatings for the exhaust system to keep it looking nice? Pep Boys sells a high temp spray for exhaust, but don't know how well it lasts. Probably looking for silver.
