as a relative newcomer to the site, i`m inthe dark regarding some of the details of HOT TIME IN THE HEARTLAND. i know what city it`s in , the dates and the host hotel. what i don`t know is ,WHERE IS THE SHOW??? is it at the hotel? and if it is what about the folks that have to stay at the hotels that are two blocks away?? i know the planning has been going on longer than i`ve been registered on the site, but surely that applies to some others. could you please fill us in???

Actually, we're discussing several options with the city of Springfield. They've offered several great locations to us and we're going to make our final decision based on the events being planned for July 4th and also the level of interest we have in the show. Our location will obviously be different if 1000 cars signed up rather than 100

The alternative site is a park about 4 blocks south of the hotel and it has covered pavilions, bathrooms (real ones) and a pond, playground equipment and plenty of grass for us to park on. I meet with the park board (this is a township located within the Springfield city limits) on the 27th to discuss the details, requirements etc. The parking lot is gravel so we will only use that for spectators- we will be on paved roads and enter onto the grass. This is a public park but not very busy most days so we would rope off our area. If for some reason we have more than 350 cars we will move to the community college (about 3 miles south east of the hotel) where there will already be a local show going on. So lets just say the show will be at the host hotel until our registration exceeds 250.

tammy and eriq, ---thank you for the rapid response to my inquiry. i feel much better now. i`m not sure whether to hope for a large turnout, or a smaller one where we can get to know each other better. just hoping that we don`t run into a torrential downpour or oppressive heat.

Dennis, usually- and I know that is nothing you can say about weather. But usually it is about 80 or so and the rain is not long lasting if at all. The host hotel has a large banquet room that we get for reserving the entire hotel so if it rains- we cover up the cars and go inside to party and talk. They also have a diner inside where we can get something to eat if we don't want to leave. I agree it would be nice to start small this time (like 200 close friends) but as they say "the more the merrier" I suspect it will be more than that. There are several historical sites in Springfield- Lincoln's Home, the church he attended before he became President, the Presidential Library and Museum (a technological marvel) and of course the tomb. But on the way back from the Lincoln history you can take in the Route 66 history since it runs right through town. We will have brochures, and tour options, pricing etc. in your goodie bag.

Tammy is there a button or something that would identify us as a streetrodding.com contributer? I have a pin that I wear to the zoo that says bigdude on it although I lost it last year carrying parts out the front gate. I took alot of ribbing from some of my buddies "the Rod Benders" for that.

Just a thought, wouldn't a BBQ outside be better then a sit down dinner? We could sit around and get to know each other better. Thats what the host hotel for the GG at Indy does and I think it works well.

Hey bigdude, I'm bringing a Sharpie marker to write everyone's name on their forehead. Littledude and Shine said they'd hold you down!

we're going to have something printed up as part of your registration which will have your userID printed on it and probably name tags or buttons or some such thing. we've got a year to plan all this so if you have good ideas please send them to us or post them on these boards

yo---eric-----------you`ll need at least two sharpies to identify your own family. the names you wrote on the kids after the wedding will have worn off by then. ----------- tammy,---how about a badge with our name, our site name and avatar. that ought to really aid in identifying all us varmints!!!
