Ok Guys, I need some quick help. I am an Model A guy and I love my '30 Coupe. My brother in law spotted a T Bucket he is thinking of buying and he called me to take a look at it. I know almost nothing about T Buckets but I went to look at it. Here is a general description, and I was hoping some of you could let us know if it is worth the asking price.

1926 T frome

Aftermarket Solid Front End with leaf Spring

About 1942 Flat Head Ford V8 Engine (I think that is a good thing)

Rochester 2 barrell carb

Early Ford Radiator

Early Ford Transmission

Early General Motors Rear End

Vega Cross Steering

Drum Brakes all the way around

Transmission Cooler mounted in Back

Rear end cooler with electric fan (Radiator is plumbed to cooler under trunk)

Fiberglass Body with Stn Stl Deck Lid

Battery and Gas tank (home made) under deck lid

Early Ron Francis Wiring

New Canvas top with rear vinyl window

Painted black frame, rear end, front end

Chrome front shocks

Lokar shifter and Emergency Brake

Radio with speakers under seat

Cloth interior

Cream Color Body with nicely pin striped radiator shell and tailgate

One piece windshield.

Outside headers of some kind

Radial Tires 14' Front 15" rear

Steel wheels with chrome rings and baby moons

Everything seems to work except the radio, dimmer switch and wipers, Wipers keep blowing fuses.

Car starts at the touch of the key and runs great. sounds great hadles pretty well too.

Bottom line - He is asking $12,000 but will take $10,000. Brother in law said he would let him know tomorrow (8/7/07) What do you all think???

One other thing, Ths car was built by someone in the Cincinnati Ohio Area several years ago. It appears to me that this guy knew a little about what he was doing. The car has drawn a lot of attentiom because it has the Ford flat head V8 Any advise will be appreciated.

Denny,

Too bad you don't gave any pictures. Bottom line, what is it worth to your B-I-L? You can't build one for $10K. A new frame and 'glass body will run roughly $9K. If nothing else, it would be fun to run around in while you decide how to correct the electrial issues. Fixing the electrical issues shouldn't be too big of a problem, even if you have to re-wire those circuits.

I have a friend selling a 46 ford 4 door for 4k that would be a better investment in my opinion. T buckets scare me.

Thanks for the quick reply David,

Never thought to take my camera and it was getting dark. If we had more time I could post a coiple of digital pics. I can say that the car is very clean. It needs some TLC but mostly just clean up stuff. Heads and headers are painted Aluminum and are a little rusty, but overall the car is pretty clean. Body has a few marks that can easily be rubbed out. What do you think about the flat head Ford Power plant? I hear these are worth a few bucks by themselves.

I started with a T bucket and it was a lot of fun to drive. Not very good for long (over 2 hr) trips. Mine had a piece
of plywood that was covered with foam and material and after time your butt really started to hurt. I sold mine for 6K with a rebuilt 350 in it. Could not get much more.

Your brother in law needs to take it for a ride. See how comfortable in it. My son had one, he's 6' 4" and he was to big for that style he had. His knees were up into his chest.

Also is your brother in law willing to fix the problems he finds. Some are hidden problems. Is the car registered in the same state? Sometimes, our of state cars can be a nightmare to get registerd.

He actually did go out in it and comfort did not seem to be a problem. Also, I have cautioned him about his willingness and desire to fix problems as they arise. The car is registered in the state of Ohio (same state) so that is not a problem. Other than the first reply, I still am getting very little feedback on the worth of this car. Based on the specifications I posted in the original post, is this car worth the asking price for someone looking for a T Bucket?

I'd start at $7k and maybe go to $9k, but no higher. Have seen some real T bucket beauties going for $10, and the description doesn't come close to what my eyes saw. A really nice one sold locally last year for $12k with a blown 454. T's can be a lot of fun but for the most part they are a 8 month car. Not many seen on the roads from late fall to early spring. At least not in the northern tier states, maybe down in the sunbelt. I think I would be leaning more towards Bigdudes thinking.

My opinion do not spend that kinda money on that kinda T. You can find alot more car for that amount. try driving that car with that trans in it very long an you'll hate ever buying it. I'm speaking from experince i had one . He probaly really wants a hotrod real bad so tell him to keep looking. LOL

Sounds like a reasonable entry level ride. A new wire harness is $150 > $300 depending on the brand, that would most likely cure the electrical probs. With the retro styling this car should be a timeless toy. Your brother in law would be able to play almost immediately. With a few weekends spent detailing and making modifications to make it his, the investment would not be extreme. Though the value would not jump any higher, i'm willing to bet it could be passed along when it is time for a longer distance ride. Especially if you called Speedway and put on a set of finned aluminum heads and intake. If it were me I would hold out for a later model, '30's > '40's car. But the key is in what he desires and wants to do with it in the future.

Hey their lots of fun. If he is looking for something to play with on weekends there great. Look at my rides, the T cost me 9500.00 and its a blast, but I wouldn't get rid of my Dodge for nothing.

Nice rides Bob!

Based on feedback from the guys on this Forum, I think we decided to offer $9000.00 for this ride. It took a second place trophy in a small show last week end. With a little detailing time and a three or four hundred bucks, I think it could be a head turner and provide some week end fun. Thanks to all those that participated.

OK Denny. It's been since this morning and no new news. How did the deal (offer) go? Don't care about the actual price (it's no ones business what is paid), just curious if your brother-in-law bought the car.

If so, let's see some pictures.

I heard thru a third party that the seller could possibly accept a $9000.00 offer. I gave that information to my brother in law and he was thinking about making the offer. I believe after rethinking the situation he decided that a T Bucket wasn't really what he wanted. I think he thought if he was going to spend $9-$11 grand he would rather have a later model (60's/70's) Muscle Car. So if you guys know of any good deals near the Akron, OH area, let us know.
