alright, so this 56' chevy half ton i've had my eye on needs new front fenders. above the headlights is rusted on both sides and the bottoms of the fenders are rusted up about 2 inchs. and both of the fenders are bent up so the doors don't open all the way. long story short i would need 2 new fenders for this 56. the box and frame are solid cab needs some floor work. every thing is there, straight 6 with a 3 on the tree. all the glass is there and not cracked. the guy wanted 600 dollars for it, so my question does it sound like its worth it. i've herd a lot of didn't things from different people. some say its worth it but some say its not. but a lot of those people aren't into hotrodding and muscle cars. so i think i'm only goin to get a good answer from you guys.

Karl, I have always been told that he cab corners are the most important. Can you post some pics for us to evaluate Some floor work and fenders doesn't seem like much work but maybe some of our truck guys can tell you what to look for.

Karl, it all comes down to what you are capable of doing or what you are willing to pay to have the work done. If you have the tools the floor work is fairly simple, a set of glass fenders would fix the front. Price the fenders on line and try to make a list of what else you would need to fix it up. Then price it all out on line. make a list and then assess what you will be spending. Then double it just to be safe. if you have any bodymen in the area who somebody knows, have them come with you and get a second opinion, thye will know where to look and how to judge the scope of work required. Around here, you can pay $1000 just for a rust free cab. But it doesn't matter how much you pay if you can't continue the work once you have it home. Be honest with yourself as to how much can be accomplished by yourself and with help from your friends. Some times it is better to pay more for your first project and be able to finish it than it is to take something because it is cheap and then have to pass it on to someone else because the project became overwhelming. Good luck, keep us posted.

also remember it costs as much to do a truck as a car but the resale is less for the truck by a 1/3 or so. it just depends on how much work you want to do. my advice is to get one that is running and you can drive while fixing up to what you want. otherwise you a pile of parts just sitting for up to 3 to 5 years in some cases of a frame off project. lack of time to work on it, money for parts ( and they all need lots of parts :~) ) and unforseen things that pop up.

Karl- its hard to judge value without seeing it in person, but pics would help. There is so much available for these trucks now (including new steel fenders, doors, roof panels, almost any patch panel you'd ever need, etc) that you could build a whole truck using only a cab. If the floors are real bad, you'd better watch out for other hidden rot. It all depends on your ability and your pocketbook.
