never mind the cd, go for an ipod. if you can maneuver your way around here, you can download music and play it into the radio.

I have a complete Clarion head and 6 cd changer package that I have for sale. Easy to install if interested.

Gene, First I agree with DavyJ, a radio with a cd built in with the capability for input from an Ipod of a MP3 player would be your best solution. You can load your music on the Ipod/mp3 player and play your tunes through your radio. Get a remote if available for your radio to make switching music easier.

However, if you want a cd changer here's the deal. I have two changers in cars. The older one has the 10 disc changer in the trunk with wires running to the radio. The radio has to be set to a no broadcast station to play the cd. The cd changer does not have to be the same brand as the radio. Unit works off of radio frequency. Works well but slightly inconvenient. Wires are hidden, only thing seened is the wired control unit on my console.

The unit in my street rod is a Sony six disc changer that I have mounted between my front buckets (easy access), which is wired to a Sony radio/cd head unit. A remote control unit controls both the radio (with a built in cd) and the cd changer. Changer gets it's power from the radio connection. This is the best and cleanest way to go, save for a wireless unit. But you will need both a changer and a radio from the same manufacturer in order to have it work together.

You might also want to consider a radio unit with a four or six disc changer built in to the radio. Easier access to the cd's plus looks no different than a standard radio. No wiring, no remote changer. You might want to check reliability due to complexity of the unit. But definitely better than mounting a unit elsewhere in the car.

In my opinion, because of Ipods and MP3 players, Cd changers are on the way out. Not as many on the market as their use to be. My next radio will definitely have Ipod/MP3 input.

Satellite radio does offer some advantages and it does offer a wide variety of music types and styles, but I don't believe it offers specific music or artist on demand. If I want to listen to Buddy Holly or listen to Rave On, I can go to the MP3 or the CD and get exactly what or who I want at that moment. Satellite does not offer that capability.

But Satellite would be a nice add-on to a CD Radio with MP3 (or Ipod). Then you would have it all.

If you drive though a long tunnel, like on the PA Turnpike, the Satellite doesn't work.

I also like the satellite deal but dont want to install that antenne on my streetrod and the installers at circuit city says it must go on out side of car.He say he could put his hand over the antenna and lose all playing plus 12.95 per month.

Go retro...8 track! I agree with Orphans, CDs are on the way out. From what I have been told MP3 is actually a file extention (like gif etc) and you can actually record hundreds of songs on one CD if converted to MP3 format.

Dixie, ain't it suppose to be in your "Merry Oldsmobile", not a little ford.

Yes, loading an MP3 player takes time, not much different than burning cd's. My wife gave me a 2 gigabyte Sandisk unit and over a course of several hours I have loaded over 460 tunes loaded and still have room for about 40 more. That's teh equivalent of carrying 24 to 32 CD's with you. CD's that can scratch, warp or break. The bigger units (8 gigs) will hold about 2000 tunes or more. If you can't find something you like on it while crusing, then I guess the next best thing is to sing to yourself.
