I have a cooling fan on my 48 Anglis that is blowing fuses. I pulled the plg at the fan and they do not blow. I have the fan on a 2 way switch on the dash that allows me to set it on all the time or come on by tem. I changed the relay and checked all wireing, looks good but still blows. The fan was new in Nov 05 and is a puller set into a shroud on a custom built rad. The fan will start to come upto speed and then blow the fuce wich is a 30 amp. The only thing let that I can think of is the fan moter is going bad. What do you all think

make sure the wireing isn't backwards. The pre-set temp switch connects the GROUND to the fan. What does your dash switch do ??

The wiring wouldn't all of a sudden get backwards. Looks as if the fan has bought the farm if the fuse doesn't blow with the fan disconnected.

I think I agree with gmanoo46, I did a couple of tests and ran a line from the battery (put a fuse in it just in case) and the fan would start to turn and then blow the fuse. all switchs are fine and have been working for the last year and a half when i installed the new unit. Founf the fan on the web and in fine print it reads not for street use as it is not a sealed mother on the fan. Fan should be used on race cars only, I know I have a lead foot but it looks like with out a sealed moter something may have gotton into it and shorted it out! Call the maker tomorrow, lets hope they can do something for me fast, 4 shows in the next month I dont want to miss...

Why would you buy another POS fan. Buy a Spal and be done with any further problems. Cooling systems are nothing to fool with.

First the fan that went bad was a SPAL fan! I talked to Spal today and to bring this to a close they are shipping me one at no cost and overnighting it at no cost. All I can say is thanks for their help and standing behind their fan. What I did learn is that the outfit who built the custom Rad for used a Spal fan that does not have a sealed moter and was designed for short runs like on a drag strip or circle track. Spal said that the cfm is high but the in bulideing this fan the moter windings are much tighter and should never be used on a streetrod for normal driving. Hope that ends it lol. Thanls to all that answered my post!!!!

Paul.......wire size? #14 AWG minimum. I use #12 always. Correct ground? Check for warm wires connections, and switch.......feel it for heat. Do not smoke the new fan.

I am sorry that I forgot to let everyone know what the outcome of the problem was. It turned out that the shop that built the custom radiator for me used the wrong type of Spal fan. I had them build the radiator, shroud and fan all at the same time so it would fit my needs. As a lot of people know a 48 Anglia does not have a lot of room under the hood and I wanted to use the saddle and mounting points I had in it for the old radiator. It turned out the fan used was a circle track fan which is designed for high rpms and a short run time. In a street rod the motor will get hot and short out as it did, also it is not a sealed fan allowing grit and dirt to get into it.

I do have to say THANKS to Spal fans, after contacting them and telling them the problem they replaced the fan even though it was over a year old, and was not there problem that the wrong fan was used. Not only did they replace it but shipped it overnight as I had a show two days later, what more could you ask for.

I will never use anything but Spal!!!!!

If your fan motor has failed prematurely (which is possible) it may be because of a voltage drop problem. Lowered voltage to the fan motor will cause this. If you have not, use 12 ga. wire to and from the fan with a good relay. This is true of any higher amperage load.

Just my .02
