Not sure if I am correct but up here they pull your license for 48 hrs and impound the vehicle for 15 days. Seems to get the point across. Crushing seems a little severe!!!!!! Could be a publicity stunt for Arnold. He has his nose into our politics up here in Canada with his "Green" hwy of hydrogen powered cars.

There was an article on MSNBC yesterday that reported each of the crushed vehicles had stolen parts, transmissions, engines, etc. Apparently that gave the state the right to crush them. The punishment does seem a little harsh for the crime. You have to wonder how that law got passed and how many other states might like the idea.

The article indicated that the cars involved all had stolen engines, trans and other parts. Hey these guys are your hot rodders but don't use stolen parts. And as far as tuner cars go, they are the cause of the current vehivle registration problems in Pa. Too many of these type of cars with crude ground effects and those darn trash can mufflers. These are the cars that Pa. is trying to eliminate from the roads, but as usual our legislatures figured out a way to get extra money from us legal street and hot rodders. We can't win. Den Drive Em. And Remember "Pearl Harbor"

similar news in Toronto, if you are caught street racing they will crush your car. Local paper showed a couple of nitrous Honda's being run over by a bull dozer.

Its funny how some of you guys find the humor in this and not recognize a potential problem. I live here in AZ and what happens in Cali eventually gets realized here, this story is all over the internet, these guys got busted for racing and like most cars here on this forum they werent stock. Most are young guys in there 20s and spend all their money on their pride and joys, like me they all cant afford to spend 50G+ on their cars so some of the performance parts were bought on ebay or newspaper, may sound familiar to some of you guys. I bought the hemi and the t-56 tranny in my dodge off ebay, if I were in Cali and decided to give the guy next to me a little run and got popped imagine if something happened to be stolen. Funny when there hondas, but how many guys would be shouting out loud if there was a 32 coupe ontop of that pile. Maybe im one of the fewguys that can appreciate a 50 year old hotrod as much as a 5 year old hotrod but danger does lurk in the distance if this becomes popular, remember the old car crushing to save on fuel and pollution a few years back just because you may have an old car dont mean yours wont be the one on the top. And yes the judge did make these guys watch their "babies" get crushed.

You know you have a great point Gunite. I'm usually the one reminding all of us that even Honda kids are hot rodders too. Yes, they get annoying but we were all young once too... oh the good ol' days! Had a kid pull up next to me in my '41 tudor a few weeks ago and say "nice deuce coupe!" Oh well.

You must know that these "victims" weren't first time offenders. There has to be so much more to the story than we're hearing online. They wouldn't just crush a car for racing once, nor would they simply crush parts that were deemed stolen, those would go back to whoever reported them as stolen parts. I'm afraid that the media has taken liberty with the facts and only told us what they thought we wanted to hear. Anyone know the whole story?

What you're talking about did indeed happen, but like Eric said, there's more to the story. There is no general policy to crush cars caught racing, but to make a point in Riverside county where 13 people have been killed street racing since March, the court did order some cars crushed. All the cars either had altered or removed VIN numbers. One guy said "the VIN tag must have fallen off". Right! Now why would you remove the VIN number on a new car? One guess! Others were running stolen engines and transmissions. There's a hugh market for stolen replacement parts for these Ricer Racers. Most of the owners were 18 or so years old. Hardly old enough to know how to handle a car doing 120 on neighborhood streets. I don't support the crushing of people's cars, but how do you make an impression on some of these guys who have been busted over and over again? Why don't these guys develop a program to do their racing at a drag strip where it will be safer. At least neighborhood kids won't be killed.
