So many of rods you see at shows are with eng.with carb.even those reciently built. My question is why don't they use the fuel injection on these eng?I think the all chrome injection units looks a lot better than carb.with chrome air cleaner and a lot more efficient as for fuel mileage and proformance. Also what year chevs.had the LTI and 4L60E trans. Thanks all

You might be suprised at how many carbed motors started out with some type of EFI.

I believe the LT-1 in 350 cid Gen 2 form came out around 1992, close to the ZR-1, then the 4L60E came in the mid 90's, it was an updated all electronic version of the 700r4.

I think most people don't understand how a fuel injection system works and for the most part intimidated by them. Then there is the added cost of injection system itself and the components for the fuel system.

Well,....those that know me knew this was commin................................
It is simply NOT POSSIBLE for a carburated engine to be as effiecent as an electronic fuel injected engine. PERIOD.
Individual electronic injectors feed EXACTLY the same amount of fuel, at the same pressure, at the same timing to each cylinder. Given the mechanical condition of each cylinder is the same, each cylinder will produce peak H.P., contributing to the maximum overall gross H.P. achievable by that engine.
It is impossible for a naturally asperated carburator, located in the center of any intake manifold, to feed each cylinder the exact or proper amount of fuel and air, therefore disallowing each cylinder maximum performance.
I my opinion, turbos are for tuners, blowers are for show, multiple carbs are for nostalgia and injection is the way to go.

blksheep, SOUNDS GOOD TO ME. Each to his own, but, GIVE ME A FACTORY TRIED AND TESTED INJECTION. My LT-1 treats me OH SO GOOD.

Like I said each should do their own THING, FOR SURE.

Interesting conversation.

I have run both and with turbos and superchargers. Frankly it just depends on what I wanted at the time. Either way, the way I see it, is as long as the car is reliable, what the hay...........................what ever floats your boat......

There may be more to go wrong with a injection system. But its less likely to happen.Technology is just to good now a days.

I think carbs are just fine. But the question was why are there not more injected cars.

My donor car had fuel TBI injection and once everthing was transplanted I hit the key and it fired right up. Always does unless the battery is dead... I got 17 mpg coming back from Mid America Nats. The thing about carbs is you get a cleaner look under the hood without all the sensors that are necessary and dont have to have a puter under the dash...

Meangene thought I should "just put an intake and carb w/an HEI and forget about it " Why spend more $$$ when what you have works..

theres not more efi than carbs because there are more people who can fix the carb. they have a new rig that has to go on the scanner if something happens. i lost 3 days of vac time in new mex on the way to pueblo. new truck - 1600 mi- just quit on the side of the road. so i know it happens and feel i can at least get there with a carb . it's just personal preference i guess. i'm doing an ls1 in inderweed but most of mine have carbs. just depends on the car and budget.

I must agree with some of the fellas, I don't know anything much about injection but with my Holley I can get around enough to keep myself from being stuck on the side of the road. My Montana is injected and she runs fine but if she quits, I call the tow truck, if the Camaro quits, more than likely I have something to fix it in the tool box.

I must say the last 7-8 family cars I have owned I have never had a failure with the fuel injector system.Does any one know the difference between LTI and LT4 also the LS1 thru LS7?Ihave just sold my 37 conv and am buying a 37 Phaeton with the LTI and 4L60E and that is reason for all questions. Thanks Guys and Gals

Lt1 is based on the good ol' fashoined sbc, only with a kick. The Lt4 is a hotter version of the same. Both engines were used up til '96. The ls1 is the newer style 5.7 litre version of the new Ls style engine that the replaced the tried and true older sbc in '97 and newer vehicles for gm. If you lift the lid of most V8 gm rear drivers, including trucks, you'll more than likely see one. In reality they share no common parts accept bell housing pattern with the old sbc, and even then they are not the same. The Ls7 is the hottest smallblock to come out of detroit yet. Over 500 ponies stock, 427 cubes.

What year Lt1 is in your '37?

I think most LT 1 engines were 300 horse, The LT 4 came with 330 horse because of better heads, roller rockers and different fuel injection. As far as the distributor, I am going to guess at somewhere in the late 80's - just a guess though.

Good news Gene...

That's the best year for the LT1. It's OBDII compliant. Meaning it follows the mandate for all cars after '95 to have a standard basic language. Still the same as of current. Makes them very reliable and also easy to diagnose when problems occur. Also, reprogramming for performance and removing emissions and security stuff is easy. Making them much better for conversions in hotrods and customs.

The 300 horse rating is conservative............

I forgot the distributor question...
The LT1 and LT4 are the only distributorless engines in that configuration. And actually they aren't really distributorless, The distributor is directly driven off the front of the cam and is under the waterpump. The waterpump is also reverse flow.
The vortec engines in the trucks still used the distributor in the rear like the tried and true sbc. The current LS styles are distributorless and are also great candidates for transplants.
