I have a 1930 Stock Hood on my ride. I occationally like to run without the hood side panels. To do that, I need some sort of bracket that wold hold each half of the hood center sections down. Does anyone konw of an aftermarket kit that is available for this purpose? Or, will I have to fabricate something myself?

I noticed the other day that Dan Fink Metal Works offers a kit for four piece hoods... really looked neat... you might check with one of our rod shops Yogi's, RJay's etc to see what they carry...

A few "easy" ways to do this. One of the oldest tricks is to get some welding rod (or similar type solid core wire that holds it shape well) and bend a piece from inside the hinges of the top down to the hood clamps on the fenders.

Leather belts work well too. Limeworks Speed Shop (who used to advertise here) has a very cool looking set but they're priced pretty high for me. I may be the only one thinking they're expensive because I sure saw a lot of them in Pomona last weekend!

I've also seen a few guys who will weld a bracket to the inside of their hood at each corner. The bracket contains a simple spring loaded lever that fits into a hole in the firewall and grille shell. Your paint looks pretty good though, so this may not be an option.

I fabricated 4 spring loaded pins. I mounted them in the top/side rod location, one on each corner. I drilled 2 holes in the firewall for the pins. I mounted 2 tabs to the radiator shell with 2 holes in it for the pins. When I wanted to open the hood, I just pulled the pins inward & raised it up.

A buddy of mine with a Model A roadster ran a bungee from hood side to hood side, going under the radiator support rods both fron and back. Worked like a charm. You have to have them pretty tight, but it worked.

All Good Ideas. I looked into the straps some time ago but was looking for something that would be hidden. I'll do a little surfing and see what I can find on Dan Fink Metal Works, but in the meantime, I like 30 A pickup's suggestion. Hey Lynn, is there any chance you can shoot me some digital pics of the spring loaded pins you fabricated? You can post them here for everyone to see or e mail them to me. I have been searching for this type of set up for quite a while. I swear, if someone would come up with an expensive bracket of some kind, he could sell a ton of them. You know, something simple like the hood cradle that bolts onto the radiator support rods.

Hey, Denny.....is it a period-perfect rod ?? Back in the day we used screen door springs. Tap out the 1/4" rod. Spring will hook into the hinge. Stretch it down 14" and hook to the brake line, he, he.

Fun with rods, Jim
