My buddy recently purchased a 61 thunderbird. The paint was badly faded. So brought the paint back to life with a nice shine. But there was some sruface rust to also take care of. But when I started grinding away the bad spot low and behold someone just threw in some body filler right over the rust and holes. So basically all Im doing is cutting out the bad and replacein with new metal. Over the winter we will give the 61 bird a new look. He just wants to enjoy the car and check it out mech.

I had a car come to me once from New Jersey that had newspaper stuffed into holes in the door sealed over with Bondo. The Bondo instead of repair is a very common (albeit it bad move) one in the restoration world for people who are less than scrupulous. I find stuff like that all the time on rides that come to me AFTER someone else has messed with it.

I feel your pain....

Knuckles tell the story if you can't see the back side of the metal. Of course there is always the"magnet experts".

Back in the day, door screen worked great. Problem today, door screen is plastic, he, he.

Keep kroozen, Jim

with all the posters saying how easy all this is you can bet it will get worse. when someone asks how to mix or how to adjust the gun and so on there is no chance it will get done right . with a few exceptions. i've always said do what you want to your own car. wait til someone buys one of the 98 dollar paint jobs or jd black and trys to refinish it . in all my years growing up in the hotrod world i do not remember anyone doing things like this. i remember people doing their best to make them look good.

Agreed Shine- just saw an article in the latest Hot Rod that described in detail(about 4 pages worth) of how you could get a respectable paint job for $98. I would love to see that one up close ! It seems as if pride , quality and craftsmanship are giving way to get it done now and get it CHEAP. Its a sad commentary about our values (or lack thereof)
