Just got back from York on Friday. No rain, hotter than blazes BUT it was as usual a great show. A lot of new cars and a bunch of the old stand bys. All in all very impressed with the cars and people. Very impressed with NSRA and the new procedure of not saving spaces. I wonder how that is going to happen for the rest of the weekend with the amount of cars present.

I registered Friday morning at 9 AM and was car number 3621. But there didn't seem to be that many cars on the field. You could arrive any time during the event and found grassy parking for a dozen cars together. Haven'r seen this much space available in yesrs. Perhaps guys are preregistering and then not coming. Vendor participation was light. On;y three outide vendors where there are usually a dozen or more. Cars were better than ever - the continuing trend. Just a handfull of rat rods but most were surprisingly well built. Weather was VERY hot. Predictd rain never happened. Would have helped. Policy of not saving blocks of spaces seemed to work. Good change.

The highest entry number we had seen was 3800 and change. I don't recall any entry number over 4000. That means at least 15-1700 cars not there, as compared to previous years. A ton of available parking spaces, which is very uncommon, and many missing vendors.

Still had a great time, no rain during the event, and most importantly, a 1000 mile round trip of SEAT TIME.

You got'a drive them!

Had a great time at York, didn't really notice a drop in vendors, many of the vendors that were located outside were now located in the old building. The new building was full. Still the best street rod event in the east. Hot as H -- , but no rain.

everytime I type something it disappears so I guess I will post just short info. Let's get it fixed Eriq, Don't like losing stuff.

NSRA reported 3982 cars or about 600 fewer than last year. Nearly 2000 fewer than in the year 2000. There was more space to park rods due to NSRA moving nearly all of the outside vendors into the buildings. Only a few parts vendors were outside and some food vendors. Several big vendors reduced their rental space this year. Some didn't show due to a competing show in LA, CA. Over heard some vendors complaining about a new "Event Tax" imposed by the city. I suspect that there will be less vendors next year. I hope not, as this is one of the reasons to go.

No Rain? I live 15 miles south of the fairgrounds and we got 4 inches Friday nite. In fact the fairgrounds got some because there was a large puddle (20' x 30')near the swap meet on Saturday morning. Plus for those of you who left early, it started to rain Sunday at 11 am and rained throught the awards, getting heavier as the show came to a close.

Frank - saw your car Friday but you were not around so I missed you, maybe at Tampa if you go. Glad everyone had a good time and hope you all come back next year. We had a good time, but their were some disappointments. Like too much heat during the day, but at least the humidity was manageable.

I was there Friday and had a nice time. Only disappointment was the reduced number of vendors. Many from last year missing. This used to be a great show to talk to vendors about their products. Very disappointed with Sanderson. My buddy wanted to talk to them about headers for the 33 he is building but when we found their booth it was staffed with 3 young girls handing out catalogs and just 3 sets of headers on display. Not much help. On the positive side we had a very nice talk with Ralph from ECI and he was explaining about a new braking system he is coming out with that sounds promising. The owner of American Auto Wire also spent about 30 minutes with us describing his system and was very proffesional and never knocked his competition.

Bob & Joe - I looked at about 3,000 cars but didn't find either of you. I was parked over near Women's World. We had to keep the ladies happy!

Al - I was parked over near the far end of the Toyota Center, not far from Gate F (?), quite a trek from where you were. MY wife and I were over at the Women's world section. She was shopping, I was relaxing outside, but still missed your car. (must have been napping. ;-)

I had a request to go to the Dick Spardaro booth tho get or order a m/c for a 39 ford. Spardaro had a sign up that said he was not taking orders nor selling any merchandise at the show. Something about issues with the taxing authority. He had people stopping by but all they got was advice and a number to call. If I traveled several hundred miles to be a vendor, I think I would try to sell the stuff I brought. Kinda of stupid to be there other wise.

Rain? I agree with orphans2. I left the ground about 6:00pm and headed East on Rt 30. Hit heavy rain all the way home, 20 miles East of Reading, Pa. I hunkered down in my roadster,Sans top and wipers and headed East. Got lots of thumbs up as I cruised at 65. Arrived home and my shirt and hat were only damp, but inside of car filled with road dirt. What a trip. Actually it was fun. thank God the wife was nit with me or we would have had to drive 50 and got drenched. I didn't return to York Sat, As I checked the weather channel at 6:00am and they were calling for severe thunder storms all day starting at noon. But I visited with maqny friends, cruised the flea marker 3 times, also got a nice set of steelies, but I was too late. O' Well. See you all next year. And most of all drive em. Den

We had a great event but like you said it was HOT and the number of cars and vendors were down. I dont know about an event tax. If their was it was not passed on to us.

Rain was ugly on Sunday all day plus the ride hoe but thur - Sat was great.

Still thinnk the GG events we go to are better only because some of the NSRA guys are old and grumpy and dont understand that the cars and vendors make the show not the officials.

Saw a guy in a decent 33 go down through the award cars on Sunday ( new never been to a show so was not sure what he was doing....just saw some cool cars and wanted to get a good look) the NSRA officla snapped on him cussing and carrying on about getting his bleeping car out of the way.

I went told him he was wrong and how hw should have handle the situation....I dont think he was happy with my opinion but so be it.

Luckily our stay in Lancaster only had rain late Friday Night-saw flood warnings for areas around York but we were spared.

Less cars -highest # we saw was 3890. Most of the vendors have moved into the buildings(there were a few missing vendors) leaving more open space outside but parking a vehicle was not a problem.Overall a good time at York!Sorry I did't catch up with some of you - maybe Macungie or Ocean City this fall.

Every show we have been to this year has had lower attendance- appears to be a combination of gas prices, economic conditions and more and more events to choose from. One event we attend that sells out each year sent a notice with the registration info(8 months after we registered) stating that there were still openings for the show in August and to pass the word.
