I'm having problem with steering shaft clearance. I have volare front end on this,F1 truck., I'm using tight tuck header's. U-joint was hitting one tube bought the coupler from borgeson to extend past it then have alignment problem. Question: Has anyone used the Tru Ram exhaust manifold that Speedway sell's. I think they would fix my problem.

What kind of performance are you expecting? I was considering them until I saw a set. They seemed kind of restrictive where the outer runners met the center collector. They might work fine on stock motor though. Quality seemed good. Have you checked Sanderson headers? They make a variety of block huggers with different tube configurations, some almost horizontal to the exhaust ports with a high mounted collector.

Nothing fantastic. They would go on a new 290 horse crate motor I'm putting in the Truck. Catalog say's 2 1/2 inch collector??

Thank's for the quick response.

i would reposition the steering. this all looks too tight to me. rock the box back , this will lower the shaft. maybe cheat the colum an inch. never had one this tight.

Shine,

It's a shock to me since this use to work. Of course I had Hedman Headers block huggers and an old Buick column. I am updating to Ididit column new motor and wiring. I don't think I can move PS box as Motor mount is tied into that bracket. I think I'll just bite the bullit and get Ram Horn's or Tru Ram from Speedway. Then I also won't have to fight header leak's. Thank's

Easiest way to fix it would be to reposition the column a little lower where it goes through the floor....

move the base of the column towards the outside of the car, a half inch will make a difference and will not be noticable at the wheel.

I'm using a 89 Mustang hanging brake pedel and only have 1/4" clearance (drivers side) to the column now. So unless I move column to the other side of brake pedel I can't go any further to the left. The pedel is on the left of column now if I move it to other side of the brake pedel the dimmer switch would also have to move. Plus it would be a 2 1/2" move.

Big Al I had the column lower and the Ujoint at end of column had clearance problem to header.

Thank's everyone for your suggestions I'm going to get the Tru Ram Manifolds from Speedway this I hope will solve the problem.

Larry-

If ya got the room--raise the engine 1/2 inch

1/2 inch shouldn't hurt ya , cuz it will change the pinion angle also.

Good luck.

we are about to put a set of Speedway Tru Ram headers on a duece roadster. I will update after install and engine check. Yes the collector is 2 1/2 inches. Don't expect any performance problems as it's for the street not the track.

RonHotRod,

Great, this is what I was after someone who has used the Tru Ram manifold. I realize that the motor could be raised to get clearance but would rather not have to go to that extreme. If the manifold change will do the trick. Please keep me posted on how they turn out. Also if possible give me the outside measurement from the block on driver's side.

Thank's in advance, Larry

After 2 or 3 different sets of block hugger headers I put on stock Chevy rams horns manifolds, that was around 7 years ago, NO more problems with gaskets or clearances.

Performance or economy didn't suffer either, or at least it isn't noticeable to me anyway, I run a 30 over 350 with a Comp 280 degree cam and a 4 barrel.

Larry.....move the column to the left. Have as little as possible of the column comming thru the firewal.

No problems, no fun with rods.
