A few of you will remember me, many of you won't. Haven't been active on the site for some time, been really busy. I used to be almost as active as Shine... no, nobody could spend that much time on the internet. You have to spend time building too, right?

Anyway, wanted to give accolades to my painter, referred to me by a friend. I've been working on my 31 Tudor for 5 years now, and besides the exhaust and body & paint, all work has been done in my two car garage. It's back from the painter, and I wanted to share some pics.

If you're looking for a GREAT painter who is reasonably priced, shoot me an email and I'll hook you up with Dane Isom. He's in southwestern Utah, about 100 miles northeast of Las Vegas. You're welcome to inspect my car to see what kind of quality you'll get!

The shot with the fenders makes it look much more blue than it really is... the two shots without fenders are more true to the actual color. I'm calling it Sage Green cuz it looks like all of the sagebrush around Southern Utah!

Thanks for the response Robert. Good to see you're still here!

That black wiring harness is still in the box, should be installing it in about a month when I get the body all bolted together. Good thing I have good eyes and a well lit garage to see those tiny white words on black wires, huh?

Yeah, I like the green too. It's funny, and it probably happens to you guys all the time too. I probably showed the color sample to 100 or more people. All but two of them said something like, "Ewww! Why would you paint it THAT color?"

My reply? "Oh? What color SHOULD I paint it then?"

The overwhelming response, "Red, or yellow, or black!"

Me, "And why those colors?"

Them, "Cuz that's what color all the other hot rods are."

My response? "EXACTLY! I don't want to drive one just like everyone else."

They just don't get it, do they? Not that I have anything against a red fiberglass '32 highboy with a belly button motor. (In fact you can see that exact car next to my Tudor in one of the shots.) I can't say there's a car or style I don't like, I love 'em all! Granted, some more than others, but they have some aspect I can love and respect.

The hilarious thing is when you paint it that "horrid" color, those same critics are flipping out with how great it turned out! I don't need their approval, I laugh my ass off.

The difference between us and them? We see the finished product and know how it will turn out long before the first nut is turned. They see pieces but don't know how to put them together; i.e., purple is a cool color but with a lime green interior it'll look like you ran over Barney the Dinosaur.

I guess this is what makes a car tasteful; one that follows a "theme" from begining to end.

Good reasonable painters as we all know are hard to find. When I lived in southern Indiana we had a great one. Unfortunately he moved to Florida in I believe the Northport area. If anyones interested, I'll try and find his phone #.

Eric - found out a long time ago that it is most important to please yourself first. My 34 is old school maroon with matching interior accents. My wife doesn't like the color thinks it should be something brighter, my daughter thinks it should be bubble gum pink. Nearly all my rod friends love the maroon. I like it too, other wise I would have bought the pink chevy. If you ain't happy with something, it will eat at you forever.

Lucky for me my brother in law can, as Shine says " lay paint on a turd" and it looks like glass. He does some of the best work in Richmond Va.
