work on the doors started with a strip down and then media blasting. After I Tig welded plugs in all the trim holes, I gave the inside of the door two coats of Rust Bullit and then Epoxy primer inside and out. There is a lot of wood in these doors, most of it is in good shape but I only kept the frameing and replaced the cross boards with alum and steel. What wood I did keep got a treatment with a two part epoxy that soaks into the wood and then sets up hard, it works great to restore old wood. The wing window frame was beyond repair so I chose to elimenate it, besides the door looks much better without it. I chose a gear drive window lift to handle the large glass. here is a before and after.. |
